Berettacocker
Look for the seagulls, terns and gannets ... they will find the whitebait shoals .. and you will have found the mackeral shoal...and maybe bass too!

thepasty
thats why I like to use light gear with either a single lure or a float, cracking sport over a few hours.... and you can always put them back if you have enough for the pot Edited June 16, 2014 by thepasty

thepasty
Where abouts Ollie? I got bad news on the Bream, some illegal netters have cleaned out the Helford, hopefully more will come in over the next few weeks. They even continued after some locals took action and "immobilised" their cars after despair at the lack of action from the authorities.... the thieves responded by wrecking a load of locals fishing gear! I like the Wild West
Ollieollie
We're staying at park dean sea acres, hoping to break some personal bests!
thepasty
ah over above Kennack beach... a cracking spot for a holiday. Will reply to your pm with some marks If you want quick mackerel action Porthkerris is worth a trip, never fails on the mackeral and if you've got a few rods stick some out on the hard ground, we've had some cracking Bull Huss off there and loads of Doggys. moor man
Me and my lad had a dozen mackerel on mini feathers on Sunday. We were kayak fishing off Meadfoot beach, Torbay, caught red gurnard, pollack, launce too.... great bait for bass! Once unhooked they go onto a fish string and trail in the water by side of the kayak to stay fresh, during quiet spells the fish get cleaned and generate more interest from more mackerel . Tightlines guys!
39TDS
I just love mackerel fishing, my favourite fish by a long way. Taste so damned good too! So called "proper" fisherman seem to look down on folk that go mackerel fishing. I don't care, I don't want to catch record size fish or rarest fish I just love catching mackerel. The biggest down side to it is the horrible mess that people leave strewn all over the popular marks. I can not understand why they think it is OK. I won't go on a weekend or bank holiday etc, only way I know how to avoid them.
ack-ack
Be careful targetting Bass in the estuaries of the southwest, most are nursery areas. Great bream in the Percuil on a rising tide but they pass by fairly swiftly.
thepasty
We dont target Bass in the estuary's, just the Bream really, could go for the Mullet but I cant be bothered with the tiny gear you need for them. No pobs with the Bream passing us, kick boat in the boat and drift up with them
39TDS
I went to anglesey last night and had 29 in hour and a half. Decided that was all i wanted to carry to my car so went home at that. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it made a real nice end to the day. I have eaten 9 of them so far.
fat_jay
What size hooks on your feathers would you go for, ones i have seen in the tackle shop are between 3/0 and 1/0 they all look a little large for maks? Any make you would recommend? Jay
rich1985
I would go small as you can bud off beach. Rich.
Spaniel
I always use the artificial shrimp instead of feathers and they have not failed me so far Just can't wait to have a bash I was down Weymouth yesterday but no fishing just fun with the family
Tallshort
Anyone recommend somewhere in Wales thats good for the mackeral? fancy a couple of days camping in July.
39TDS
Pwllheli beach was good last year. Anywhere can be hit and miss by the nature of the fish. I went last night and only caught one where I caught 29 last week. I won't go at the weekend because of the hoards of numpties, you could see from the piles of rubbish left over from the weekend that it had been busy. These people should be thrown in in my opinion. islandgun
Anyone recommend somewhere in Wales thats good for the mackeral? fancy a couple of days camping in July. I enjoyed many good sessions down on the Lleyn peninsula mostly off the rocks overlooking Bardsey sound below Aberdaron, a stunning place but worth more than two days, or famously Mackerel rock on Angelsey often turned into a dump by anglers, just about anywhere with access to deepish water in July
39TDS
Mackerel Rock was where I was, and yes it had been turned into a dump by the weekend anglers. There was a big trawler working the bay last night, what are they after? I mean they were out at sea rather than Trearddur Bay
