Sprucey
Hi All... Does anybody have any opinions on the Audi Allroad for off road capabilites? looked online but very vague. The time has come to change my car, and I need something that will get me most place off road, but as the same time return good economy and comfort on the road (I do some long trips due to work). Alternatively if anyone has any other suggestions I welcome them cheers!
rimfire4969
I really like the Allroad but they are limited off road due to road tyres and clearance. Grassy field should be fine as long as not too steep and wet.
robbiep
The real world economy is nowhere near as good as the figures suggest - for the 2006-2011 cars, don't reckon on much over 33 mpg. Newest ones a bit better.
henry d
That style of car? Try the Skoda Octavia Scout. Higher clearance and bags of room.
shaun4860
Make sure the air suspension works, It should raise and lower at the flick of a button
WGD
The only person I know that bought one traded in a Discovery for one, choosing it for the same reasons as you. 12 months on and he bought another Disco. Draw your own conclusions.

The Allroad has better ground clearance than a rangerover when set at it's highest setting Deershooter

corkycorksta
Great car with moderate off-road ability. Buy the diesel and avoid the petrol 2.7 bi turbo, it's quick but blower problems are common and extra pricey as it has two.
figgy
Get the new RR sport diesel great to drive and returning 40 plus to the gallon. Figgy
thepasty
I borrowed my in laws all road while my truck was out of action, I certainly wouldnt buy one as a truck replacement, fine in a dry field but much more than that and its either grounding out or slipping and sliding. The fuel pumps also go on them at something like £2k to replace .... my inlaws found that out the hard way.
Twistedsanity
The clue is in the title " all road" not " off road"
Sprucey
Thanks for all your replies! got a bit to think about, I'll be having a look at the skoda alternative . PhilR
My wife has a Volvo XC70 estate SE Lux. Owned it from new in 2006 and has done 162k miles. Does about 33mpg, it's a six speed auto and goes well as it's the 185bhp model. Very comfortable to be in and hasn't let us down. Great on the road and handy in the snow but I wouldn't rely on it on anything more than field margins that aren't too muddy.
ColinF
I haven't owned one, but I know a lot of people who rate Subaru's off road capability. What about a Forester or Outback?
brett1985
the allroad isnt a proper off road vehicle. full stop. never designed to be one. if you need/want an offroad vehicle, buy a dedicated 4x4. that being said, the self locking centre differential set up on the allroad (or quattro) is the best out of the bunch. its very capable on most surfaces and has the added bonus of ride height adjustment. amazing in snow and wet weather driving is brilliant. we have alot of farmers buy them as their daily runaround as they tend to be reliable and will pull trailers with ease (also good for boats...) engine wise, the best all rounder is actually the 3.0tdi. driven correctly it will give better mpg than the 2.0tdi. if you find one you like and want to know anymore on the spec, then pm me the reg number and i'll look it all up for you. (im a parts manager for audi...)
