I am in no way connected to this shop apart from being a very happy customer.

I bought a gun from them about 3 months ago. it was a second hand nikko from the 70's and at the time was offer to take the gun away and if I was not happy with the fit could exchange it for the same money I paid.

the gun fitted and I was happy.

the other day I was shooting clays and once fired I tried to open the gun but it was jammed.

I took it in to them and free of charge they had their gun smith look at it. he adjusts the bottom firing pin as it was not returning fully after firing.

service with a friendly smile and they stand by their guns. bearing in mind this was a second hand gun with no warranty I am very happy :) :) :) they also stock an amazing amount of different gear.

Duckman91 Im pleased it all worked out for you. neither my friends or myself have had such good service & I'm sad to say the guy who owns the place is the best free advertising other nearby gun shops could ever wish for, just my experience.

Yep,went there with cash in hand for a new beretta silver pigeon. Guy demanded to see my Sgc before allowing me through to view the guns on the shelf- I wasn't wearing a balaclava and was polite etc. he was at best abrupt and generally snotty.

Bought the gun but I'll never spend a penny there again.

Ha ha Planty can have that effect on people, depends on his mood. The gray haired fella who works there is a pleasure to deal with.

It's the oddball at Saltburn I have a hard time with, he will tell you any carp to sell you something.

Think all gunshops give good and bad service and advice at times.

Redcar is where all the guns no one else wants seem to end up

I used to use Gilsans up there after I went in to buy a couple of guns for the club as he was £20 cheaper they where very stand offish and ask to see my SGC, show it still a bit off with me so I said thanks for your time I'll take my cash up the road.

Simon at a gilsan gave me a better discount and a cuppa

Ditto in terms of wanting to see my cert'.

I was visiting my brother-in-law in Middlesbrough and needed some carts for the following day, but on entering to view their stock in the ante-room I was asked to produce my cert' or stay in the part of the shop that sold clothing, etc,

I'm not aware of a general requirement to do so but I guess it's the chap's shop and he plays by his rules, but unfortunately at the expense of me spending my hard-earned elsewhere.

The irony here is that we are looking to move to the area but will not become regulars despite being on the doorstep.

On the other hand, I went to Gilsans for a mooch when out for the day and was looking at a real beauty of a stock (can't for the life of me remember on what) and the lad there was over and immediately asked whether I wanted to get a bit closer to it with a hold. I made it very clear it was way out of my price range but he insisted and was more than happy for a general chat, knowing there was no sale in it. Fair enough, it was quiet and he may have already finished the crossword, but when we're living in the area, that will be where I'm going for sure.

Haven't tried the others mentioned so couldn't comment. Have had plenty of dealings with Gilsan, as have most of my shooting buddies. Always keen for a deal when selling guns, and great service when buying carts and ammo too (Richmond branch, never used the Layburn one)

Had same experience in Northallerton! In the market for a howa 243 a few years ago.

Went in, asked for FAC to get in by a gruff old chap, got in, chap wasn't for letting me hold anything!

Different sales guy took over and was more than happy to help. Not sure I will be spending there again!

Skipton gun room on the other hand are excellent for customer service! Now my place of choice! Always offers a cuppa and a chat! Had an issue with a gun I bought and Phil was over apologetic and ended up selling me his own gun as he knew it was what I wanted! Always knocks a few quid off most things I buy! Good old fashioned service. Highly recommend a visit! (No affiliation)

I live a short walk from Northallerton Shooting Supply's and have in the past spent loads of £ in there...after several bad experiences over the years and poor attitude (depending on who serves you as some of the staff are helpful) I now choose to spend my £ at Gilsan Sports where I ALWAYS get a friendly and very helpful service.

I recently bought 500 HMR rounds from Simon at Gilsan and they did not shoot well in my gun, I had shot 50 but he exchanged the 450 for a full 500 brick (I only wanted to exchange the 450) of another make no quibble in fact he insisted.....Try that at NSC!

I used to go there all the time when I lived in North Yorkshire. Never had a problem with them but I did used to buy a lot from there, so I guess that helps!

Went in there a couple of weeks ago as I was in the area and was looking for a new coat. The owner was chatting to a bloke near the counter, he didn't even bother acknowledge me and say he would be with me in a min. I wandered around for a bit, couldn't see what I wanted so left without even speaking to anyone! Wandered into the gun room without being asked for my cert.

Where are they moving to in Thirsk?
