Cosd
Other than basic cleaning of my Semi since I bought it, I went on the interweb and found a Youtube video on how to strip it down and clean it properly. My cleaning kit is quite poor really, so would like to get everything I need. I have a cleaning rod and some cleaning oil, what else do I need to get? Something to stop the chokes from seizing, lubes, oils, cleaning agents ect.... Any particular brands? shootgun
Not completely stripped down... You haven't removed the piston from the gas chamber... this is where is getting dirty... Napier gun cleaner and 000 wire wool works for me, but not on the wood and blueing obviously...

Piston was removed and cleaned, I'd put it back in by the time I took the picture. Thanks though! Edited October 21, 2014 by Cosd
clakk
any heavy carbon fouling can be removed by soaking overnite in rola-cola .it makes u wonder what it does to your teeth
stubby
I read somewhere to use car engine oil, rather than gun oil, as it has a higher tempreture before getting burned off? being a cheapskate I like that idea
fenboy
A scotch pad will clean the magazine tube up like a new pin. You need to add some bore solvent to you kit. Some pipe cleaners are handy for gas vent holes in the barrel .

sitsinhedges
Don't put any oil near the gas valve or anywhere else forward of the receiver or it will just turn to a burnt nitro powder slurry. Do put a smear of copper slip anti seize paste on the fore end nut stud to stop it seizing on.
figgy
Speak to Webber on here I did and got a box full of great gear. Cleanzoil liquid and patches, some new foam swab-it's with rod adapter and a multi sized pack of swab-it cleaning tips for hard to reach places. Very good to use soaks the bores and cleans loads of crud from the bore before scrubbing. Bit of car grease or anti seize will do for your chokes. I always put grease on my little finger and wipe it inside the threads and barrel to protect it from rust in rain,it gets trapped between the choke and barrel wall. A tin of spray oil like legia for blasting the action and trigger then a wipe over to remove excess does mine.
Cosd
Cheers for the replies guys. I haven't heard of that Clenzoil before, I just had a quick browse on the net and it reads pretty well. I might try a bottle of that and the wipes also. Thanks again guys. kent
Take the piston out and soak it in meths for about 24 hrs or so then clean it up with an old toothbrush to remove all the burnt on carbon. Keep the inside of the mag tube clean via an extra long wool mop (like you use for barrels) dirt up here will obviously effect feed, its just not so easy to get to now with crimped ends you are limited hence the wool mop . The trigger group should be blown out and well cleaned and oiled (fowling guns are best flushed with soapy water) and do not forget the raceways inside the action, grit and sand will wear them and is a fairly major reason why some get mis feeds and jambs over time is they wear themselves a heap of slop. One bit not removed is the magazine stop latch, make sure its clean underneath and free to move in and out as required fully, another area for so called "unexplained" mis feeds. Two questions if I may: How do I clean the mag tube? Do I simply push the mop in through the loading point? So I push against the spring? The "magazine stop latch", is that the plastic rod bit which governs how many carts will fit into the mag tube? Cos

69chris
carb cleaner tends to be a bit harsh on rubber seals too, your advised to remove them from carbs before using carb cleaner anyhow........assuming anyone else actually uses carb cleaner on carbs anymore that is

fenboy
Thanks Kent. Two questions if I may: How do I clean the mag tube? Do I simply push the mop in through the loading point? So I push against the spring? The "magazine stop latch", is that the plastic rod bit which governs how many carts will fit into the mag tube? Cos I think he means the magazine cut off , the small flat latch that can be pushed in to prevent a cartridge loading from the magazine , so you can remove one from the chamber. To give the magazine tube a clean if its the same as the beretta 391 series then at the top near the rod that the piston goes over is a tiny pin , this can be pushed in and the magazine end cap remeoved by unscrewing , you can then lift the spring out , I used to flush mine out with a jet of WD40 or such like , then dry it off, I would not bother unless you have put a lot of cartridges through it or are getting feed problems. Lord O War
Get a bore snake, they are cheap on ebay, they are great at cleaning out the barrel. Squirt cleaner on it and pull it through 2 or 3 times and you will have a nice clean barrel then use the mop with some oil on it to stop rust forming.
