Guest rimotu66
Personally It does not settle well with me, I do not think a company should use the memory of the 'Great War' as a tool to sell there goods, yes I realise they have given The Royal British Legion a big payday but could they have not done that without cashing in on the 100th anniversary of so many lives lost. timmytree
It might be a touching advert but it's cashing in on the story of the Christmas truce isn't it? Ordinary men who tried to escape the awful reality of trench warfare and the death and destruction that went with it. Maybe Aldi or Lidl will come up with an advert that glorifies the Blitz in London, Bath or Bristol? Maybe Tesco will do one glorifying Hamburg or Dresden? I find it insulting that an organisation like Sainsburys would use this slant on things but I'm not really surprised, lowering of standards is nothing new in the advertising business. clakk
totally wrong imho .they are using a time of pain and suffering that shouldnt have happened to sell stuff .those blokes that left the trenches had seen through the goverment dribble and knew the germans were just like them .thats why they left the trenches to talk to fellow humans .its wrong on every level. Pushkin
Blimey you lot are in a right grumpy mood. Have none of you considered the real message that is in there? In times of war/conflict the reality is that there is still a level of humanity in us all - that given the right trigger (no pun intended) we can still all have a common ground where we can put aside our biggest issue and come together to enjoy the passing of Christmas and get on with each other doing something else? No one can or should even attempt to deny the loss or injuries that came about through the war (any war) but keep in mind all soldiers did it so our people could be free to celebrate things like Christmas as free people in their own right. To my mind, this advert reminds us that this amazing event did take place. You need to loosen your britches a bit folks and enjoy. Cannon
I could understand being offended by the ad if it was done in bad taste, but it's not. It's well put together, and as Pushkin has said it shows humanity was actually present during WW1.

BattleFieldRelics
If it didnt have the multimillion pounds companies logo in the production then yes its a good piece. Unfortunately there is and Its nothing but an advert I think its disgusting and wont be shopping there.
Guest rimotu66
Good taste or bad taste its still an advert by a company advertising there goods, they have not done it for anyones benefit but there own to rake more cash in and in my opinion (and thats all it is) they should advertise there goods only. bruno22rf
I love it-and I bet any one out there who is ex-services will buy all their crimbo goodies from Sainsburys now. With the cute Robins tweeting merrily away on the barbed wire to the surprise bar of choccy it almost makes the millions of lives that were lost seem worthwhile. Gunman
Not seen it yet ,must admit that none of these ads make me want to dash out and buy from their shops . Still as far as it goes any thing is better than Jamie Olive-oil.
norfolk dumpling
Seen it and I think we are getting our undies in a twist over nothing. There are far more tasteless stuff on tv that we perhaps should be giving more reaction too - Keith Lemon for example!! He makes me really quite nauseous. Half the current Labour party front bench too should have a government health warning especially Ed Balls and his missus - she really annoys me with all her winging but nothing positive in return. I'm really dreading the GE.

BRYAN3
To my mind(imho). 100 years ago many people were killed or wounded to benefit governments and the big company's that ran the governments. Employers even ordered Guys to go and sign up. Now it seems big company's see fit to cash in on the memories of those that suffered to make yet more money out of the working classes. I don't know whether the footy match really happened or if just a legend, perhaps one of the panel could enlighten me please. Also, what game would have been played in WW2 if the Japanese and British had done the same? ATB Bryan.
Cannon
Speculating is pointless, and you have a choice whether or not to shop at these places. They provide a service to every class of person. You'd do well to do a bit of research before posting.
loriusgarrulus
I like the advert. I think its a well done and tasteful depiction of what was supposed to have happened. It is good that they are supporting RBL as well. It won't make me any more likely to shop there or not. We don't knock war films which are made to make money for the film companies. Did you bleat when an almost identical storyline was used by Paul Macartney for his Pipes of Peace video?? Same motive, to make money.
