Rioting in the streets.

Watching QI recently, there was an interesting question about why people fall down when they are shot. The premise was that (obviously excepting when someone has been instantly fatally shot or very severely injured like their leg being blown off) people do not tend to fall over when shot, until they know they have been, then they do.

It reminds me of a few military memoirs I've read where people have only realised they had received an injury when someone pointed it out to them, or the adrenaline has stopped pumping.

Wasn't there a story years ago about a guy that was high on PCP who took a full mag from an Uzi but still kept coming?

totally correct.

i watched a video on youtube the other day which involved a man in a fight outside a cinema. he was stabbed at least 10 times and managed to fight off his attacker. he then, for around 15 - 20 seconds walked around like nothing had happened. a bystander told him that he was bleeding and within a couple of seconds he was on the deck.

strange old thing, the human body.

the thing is, that if you point a gun at a threat, you will end up using it. The US cops draw nigh on every encounter that I've seen on the documentaries. The initial challange to the unarmed and albeit irate and large framed youth should not have been with a firearm. The danger has increased as the cop was looking at getting his gun taken from him and has reacted with what he had in his hands at the time. Pepper spray or a stick would have been more suited to the threat. Taser if available would have been better.

That said, the youth should have known better than fronting a cop holding a gun-what did he think he was going to do?

as for the disorder, we had it with Rodney King in 1992 and nothings changed. Still predominantly white police departments policing run down black areas.

Why the officer has chose to air his views on TV i dont know-now everyone knows his face, he will be a target for the rest of his life.

I wont be suprised if theres a march in Brixton or Tottenham over the next few days in support.

all aboard the bandwagon!.

6'5', 300lb guy runs at a cop. After calling the cop a pussy and gaining speed over 25 yards, the cop shoots him when he gets to 8 yards away.

All this was discussed on R4 yesterday morning and I'd say, like the Grand Jury by the way, that the cop was in fear of his life and was right to blaze away. Shooting to wound only happens in films and the cop's training kicked in and he shot at centre mass and head.

But don't let the truth get in the way of a looting spree just before Christmas...

One point to also think about is the black guy was 6'6 and 300lb BUT the cop is 6'5 and 280lb so it is hardly big bad guy against small good guy.

we have the same problem with black boys comiting crime and our stop and search laws it would seem ok to stop the black lads and see if they have anything on them but if you was a black lad who had never done nothing wrong in your life would you not get peed off being stopped when the white boys mostly are not I do not now the answer but it is something to think about.

This is why the US army do not like the 9mm round they tend to prefer the old colt 1911 .45 I did read somewhere about a guy who took a head shot and it blew half of his head off but he still managed to run a hundred yeards bock down the road they do say that the best gun to stop someone in there tracks is the good old shotgun in the chest .

I think as a start there is no need for fully automatic weapons, but again, massive topic, if I walked into any sporting goods store here and said that I would be ripped to shreds.

You live in America yet you don't know the gun laws. It takes a while to get fully automatic weapons in America, application to ATF taking anywhere between 3-9 months, $200 tax stamp and the desire to spend $15000 upwards for a full auto sporting rifle, whereas you can get the same rifle in semi auto with a bump fire stock for around $2000.

Must admit rather him than me, i would not fancy doing his job over there with the ammount of guns in circulation.

Until ur faced with the situation it is really very hard to judge and a bit rich to claim he should of done this or that.

U only have to look at some deer in this country esp munties and sika can run for long distances with there heart/lungs or even shoulder shot out u'd wonder how it is possible and seems to go against all the basic biology u know.

I have no idea wot 280-300lbs is (150ish kg? cos thats heavy) but guessing at 6 5" ur talking a big fella, i defo would not be wanting someone that size running at me wanting to cause me harm

Think some folk just want an excuse and this fits the bill

The riots are not a protest, the acquittal is just an excuse for criminals to go on the rampage. If the dead man had been white there wouldn't have been rioting, to me that makes the rioters guilty of racism besides the other criminal acts. They are rioting simply because the bloke was BLACK, end of. They are conveniently forgetting his past criminal behaviour and the fact that he died whilst committing another offence.

Everyone knows right from wrong, some people abide by the rules of society, some choose to ignore them. A few (not enough) get shot and hundreds of the same colour go on the rampage? Quite simple, without being overtly racist there would be a very different situation if the bloke had been white. Making excuses for the riots because a cop shot someone and wasn't blamed for it is shortsighted, crime is crime no matter what colour you are. The fact that the majority of the rioters/criminals is black may not be PC but it's the bloody truth whichever way you look at it.
