Pykie
Four of us decided on a little rough shoot over a few farms and woods I have permission on. The weather was bright and warm, very unseasonal especially with all the walking! Started off well with four pheasants in the bag from some hedgerows and I knocked down an unlucky wood pigeon. A fox was seen but too far for a shot and we shot a very old cock bird from a piece of woodland with huge spurs. At the second farm my friend Rob shot a stonking high carrion crow and I had another pigeon. Two hens broke out and one climbed high to be swiftly shot by Rob. Entering a long piece of woodland, I saw a squirrel bolt into a drey. Shooting into it three broke loose and some rapid fire had all three on the deck. I reloaded and shot another two while two more pheasants broke out, one shot by Mike as a long crosser. As we walked back to the vehicles, a lovely big hare ran out and I quickly bowled him over with one shot. The farmer wanted one for his friend so that was a bonus, only trouble is I had to carry it three fields back!! We did a few more hedgerows and had a few more shots and ended up with 9 pheasants, 5 squirrels, a rabbit, two woodpigeons and a carrion crow and the hare. Four knackered shooters and four knackered dogs.

Scully
I don't think you can beat a good day out with mates on a rough shoot. On ours we get pheasant, pigeon, corvids, duck (mallard and teal) hares (which no one shoots) rabbits, woodcock and snipe. The Redlegs we saw in Spring/Summer have disappeared unfortunately. We put down 125 ex-layers in June and from two outings so far this season (next one this coming Saturday) have shot 59. Very small numbers compared to some around here, but it's about more than the bag as you'll know. Have fun.

We love our rough shooting as well as our driven but cant beat the unexpected variety of a rough mooch around
