My wife is Polish Catholic and eats meat all the time on Fridays apart from Easter Friday and we tend to have a none meat feast on xmas eve (fish is ok) which my English family come round and happily enjoy despite being non-Catholic. We will be eating meat next xmas day even if its Friday but wont be doing the day before.

Like a lot of things in religion when a statement is made by the Elders, leaders, Priests, Rabi`s, Ministers, Mullahs etc of a particular religion people of that religion are expected to obey and follow.

The middle eastern beliefs take the Friday as there holy day, The JW`s and others its a Saturday and in general Christians its a Sunday.

If its what you want to do then do it, if you feel its only because of being told to do then dont. I am sure we can all rant and rave about religion and the trouble it has caused over the centuries

but we wont get anywhere. Let everyone make up his/hers own mind.

Anaway christmas is just a pagen festival as we all should know. :) But enjoy yourself.

Trolling??? its a genuine question,in the off topic forum, why does this offend you? i'm not spouting my beliefs just asking a question, and if everyone stayed silent about thoughts and beliefs religious or otherwise people would have very little to say to each other, 41 posts??? get a grip man

On Pigeon Watch they are referred to as ‘opinions’ and you seem to have invited a few! :whistling:

Don't hate Catholics, just the religion. All religions are just a way of controlling, brain washing etc. My 2 kids where not christened or went to catholic school. Let them make their own minds up.

The catholics are not much different to muslims with 40 days fasting in lent, bit like Ramadan.

Atheist through and through. Still like xmas though so a bit of a hypocrite really. Nice to have a break in winter.

Because of the narrow-mindedness of the catholic church which destroyed countless thousands of books and other sources of ancient knowledge just because it didn't fit in with their views.

It was t o do with christ died on the cross on a friday if i remember right, but hard working men likes of labours were allowed to eat meat as it was thought they would need it.

Who said he died on a Friday, did they even have names for the days of the week back then, most of the week names that we use today are from some other mythicial gods or so called heathens, Thor, Woden for example rather than christian names.

Same thing happened with Martin Luther at the Diet of Worms AD 1521 ..... Burnt the books and sources of ancient knowledge. ( Bad as each other ). Wasn't even Bonfire night.

( Allowed to ) . I find the concept that some organization can dictate what you can and can't eat strange, and why people would obey it stranger.

Its the historical and ongoing child sex abuse scandals, and the cover ups by the church that would concern people more. If any other organisation did similar they would be shut down, and people certainly wouldn't be taking advice from them on what to eat at Christmas.

The Pope played a leading role in a systematic cover-up of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests, according to a shocking documentary to be screened by the BBC tonight.

In 2001, while he was a cardinal, he issued a secret Vatican edict to Catholic bishops all over the world, instructing them to put the Church's interests ahead of child safety.

The document recommended that rather than reporting sexual abuse to the relevant legal authorities, bishops should encourage the victim, witnesses and perpetrator not to talk about it. And, to keep victims quiet, it threatened that if they repeat the allegations they would be excommunicated.

So you're quite happy to lose valuable knowledge, much of which we are only now beginning to relearn?

And who are you calling a crank?
