We're already paying for it by giving aid and sending military vessels ect to the area. And just how much is the cost of the worry to the 70 odd people who where on her flight and who have been contacted for no apparent reason other than to tell them they ah hem have nothing to worry about. walshie
So to sum up, if you think that travelling on a commercial flight while experiencing the early symptoms of Ebola was a good idea, you deserve a halo. And if you think it wasn't, you're an idiot/stupid/ignorant. Pass me my dunce's cap immediately. Edited December 30, 2014 by walshie

Fisherman Mike
I think some of the posters on this subject have the symptoms...certainly no shortage of Diarrhoea being spouted... Its just more anti-establishment claptrap from people who just cant wait to find something about this country to criticise, whether its the government, the health service, unemployed or immigrants... For gods sake get a life and change the record please.... Good on her for having the balls to do something tangible and help those poor people that Britain has exploited since Victorian times. krugerandsmith
Well that didn't take long. A health care worker infected with Ebola has flown from West Africa to Heathrow, then taken an internal flight to Glasgow. You couldn't make it up. Surely there's a system in place in Africa where these people are quarantined and deemed safe, and clear of any symptoms BEFORE they're allowed to board a flight to the UK? Don't be so sensible. You heard what the so called experts said.... the poor lady contracted Ebola through all that protective clothing yet the people on the plane have nothing to worry about.....Hmmm. Vince Green
The number of healthcare workers going out there is small. The Foreign aid budget is billions. Would it not be sensible to use some of that money to do the decent thing and set all this up properly instead of making volunteers take unnecessary risks? The money would be spent providing real foreign aid! That would be a first!
kdubya
When will you all learn? Sadly its when will you learn,? the complacency shown not just via some on here but also by the health "experts" of the NHS is truly mind numbing in this case we a have a nurse who WAS (she says so ) complaining of having a temperature and asking to be checked and was herself worried about her travel arrangements, yet being shooed along with a you will be OK just crack on and a cursory check, considered shambolic by others in the group, and being told you are OK to get home but once there avoid crowds for a couple of weeks ( the words of the doctor sat next to her from Sierra Leone to Casablanca) who himself said he was shocked by the lack of rigor and indeed some sort of quarantine following his deployment ! perhaps he had not heard that the expert advice from anyone not considered a troll on PW was not to be safe rather than sorry( the sensible way) but to play down the threat of the virus as its just about impossible to catch according to them and after all its not as if these health service staff once back home and at work are going to come into contact physically with people who are already ill or have immunity issues via an illness in a hospital or other health center or agency is it? wonder if they can be sacked for breaching bio security rules as with our member who worked in a chicken farm KW Edited December 31, 2014 by kdubya
poontang
Don't be so sensible. You heard what the so called experts said.... the poor lady contracted Ebola through all that protective clothing yet the people on the plane have nothing to worry about.....Hmmm. Yes, it's amazing all the 'experts' are telling us it's nothing to worry about. I seem to recall the very same people telling us they had rigorous procedures in place to stop this sort of thing happening. As KW has already noted the doctor who travelled back with the victim has described those 'rigorous procedures' as shambolic. The same doctor also complained of feeling unwell and his temperature was a little on the high side. To be fair to the people screening him, they did try to isolate him in a separate room from the other passengers, but couldn't find one...so he was allowed to stay with the others. This is an ongoing operation that could last months, possibly years, and yet the powers that be seem to have fallen at the very first hurdle. It's certainly not scaremongering to be asking questions as to how and why this was allowed to happen. After all we've managed to keep rabies out of the country using proper screening and quarantine measures, and whilst a 21 day quarantine period is no doubt a bit of a nuisance it's far more preferable than the possible consequences. victorismyhero
no ...you see most of us agree that there SHOULD be secure quarntine for those returning from such duties. What the ones who know have a problem with is all theses "oh no were doomed" types panicing and spreading (or trying to spread) panic over very little ........ IF you read the first couple of pages or so you will see that in fact the guilty parties started by slamming the nurse it seems the knockers have a bitter pill to swallow.....since clealy it wasnt the NURSE who is at fault here, but the "authorities" nice to see KW attempting to back pedal like fury....... see....I agree there should be quarantine BUT the authorities here wont pay for that (yet still want "volunteers" .....it looks god and doesnt cost em much) and once again the authorities have been caught wanting...... yet ...lets castigate the nurse (who gave willingly of her time...and may yet sacrifce more) lets cause unnecessary panic pffffft.......... Never back peddled in my life and never will went simply by information available at the time my stance was then as is now, she and her colleagues should have been segregated simple as that, so please dont make any assumption on my part thanks. In this thread two ever reoccurring factors come in to play IE, complacency and over confidence, amazingly they are the big hitters in serious industrial events, yet if we here use the tools that combat them , healthy unease, looking at what is the worst thing that could happen etc, we are considered trolls, well sorry sunshine we aint trolls we are realists who can see further than the end of our noses. Well I've just read through the thread and can't find these doom mongers and panic stricken people you're talking about. Plenty of people questioning what's happened and looking for answers though. Oh, and a few of the usual suspects telling us that we think we're all doomed/panicking etc.
