barney 66
I am after a pair of leather Wellies, something that's going to keep my feet warm when standing around foxing, both me and my mate seem to suffer these days with cold feet tried the Neopreene Wellies and extra socks so am thinking leather ones. What makes are reasonable price and will last ? Thanks barney
Underdog
I don't think them being leather is the whole answer bud, your not going diabetic are you ? I got a while ago some pack boots but posher ones with stiff soles and some spring to them. They are thickly insulated and I wore them waiting for fox in this recent cold spell and stayed warm. They were not water proof where the leather upper meets the rubber lower but are now I applied my dubbin. Think they are called High Peak. U. figgy
I have some Harkila Estate boots in leather, lovely and warm compared to wellies and have a Gortex lining, though I waterproof the leather from new. Le chameau do some along with a few others. My wife likes her Dubarry's

Was ok when I had medical for hgv, this isn,t a new thing just been ignoring it but as you get older don,t need to much of an excuse to stay in sometimes when it's really cold. It's only my feet most of the time so get that sorted and no more excuses, I will have a look at the high peak, also interested in the Harkila figgy mentioned, Uttings have an offer on these, Thanks for the replies barney

Your boots aren't too tight are they? When it come to shove, no matter how you try, if you're out long enough your feet will get cold! islandgun
You could have a look at "cofra thermic superlight" wellies in green at £47/£60 pair cold weather/freezer boots, I use them when it gets cold brilliant grip, ugly though Edited January 3, 2015 by islandgun
PhilR
I don't think my leather lined Le Chams are as warm as my neoprene lined ones. I use a pair of thin silk socks under my shooting socks now and they help a little bit. I notice the cold more the older I've got and I'm not diabetic either. It was also my understanding that neoprene was warmer than leather. I have never owned leather, but find the Chameau neoprene very good. barney 66
I was guessing that goretex or similar leather wellies would be warmer as they breathe as well unlike wellies, Of course what probably doesn't help is my wellies live in my Landy all week and sometimes it doesn,t get used all week so they are cold to start with, maybe I should keep them indoors
phil123
I bought a pair of harkila leather at the beginning of the season and they are much warmer than my neoprene wellies. Very comfortable to walk around in too!

scotslad
Depending why ur feet are getting cold? Is it ur sweating in ur wellies so gets cold when ur socks are wet. I have this prob as wearing wellies all day long, but found wearing 'bootsox' (wee slipper type things u put on over ur socks) cures it, bloody brilliant things. Amazing how often u come home and take ur boots of and those 'booty' things are wet but ur socks are bone dry and feet warm. I find the blue (think Bama make them) better than the red ones U sometimes need a pair of boots a size bigger than normal, i just use cheap boots and quite happy with them. Keeping ur wellies inside will help to thou
Underdog
That's why I always ask my wife to get wool socks. Wool is warm when wet!
scotslad
Only to a certain extent, i wouldnae fancy standing about with wet wool socks either. My work socks are all preety decent modern type of walking socks so arenae to bad when wet, Used to have wool socks or work and were no better (hand me downs from my dad/grampa) But i more just talking a wee touch of dampness u probably wouldnae have noticed otherwise, but this time of year u notice it from 3ish on ur feet get cold without those socket things on
al4x
I find wearing thermal leggings makes the difference, certainly I had a few nights up high seats last week in minus 3 and was pleasantly warm. Even feet that usually get cold were fine with decent socks and neoprene boots. Keep your core really warm and I think it helps with your hands and feet

SNS
I've got some neoprene hunters and some leather ones ( Hunter Westerley) I got in the sale at William Powell a year or so ago. The leather boots are warmer by a country mile.

barney 66
Harkila sporting estate GTX 11 17" boots arrived today lovely boot but I always take size 7 but these I can just feel my toe touching the front so might send them back, not sure if they would loosen with wear or not but only got 7 days and don't want to take labels off shame as they were 1/2 price and next size up are 11s back on the lookout again now
