pigeon controller
Friday saw us heading for the rape fields again, the only problem was the amount of gas guns about. the birds were sitting in the trees not feeding then they would be spooked and spiral up into a flock of one hundred plus birds. We covered fifty miles in which we counted twenty one gas guns. So we hatched the plan look for a farm or fields with no gas. We managed to find three five acre field all together with no gas guns on any , there were birds in the trees all around this haven but none feeding on the rape. So we spooked them off into into Gas Gun Hell and set up under a sitty tree it was 12.00 and we waited for the hopeful return. It was't long before a banger went off in the distance and sent us some birds back to come straight to the decoys . The gas guns sent us a steady trickle of birds all afternoon and we stopped shooting at 16.00 and picked up one hundred and five birds , so another successful day out pigeon shooting. Saturday had us heading in a different direction as we had been told the birds were hitting some sheep turnips hard. When we arrived the field had about a hundred birds down feeding. We spooked them and they flew round the field and straight back in so we set up with the magnet and ten birds on cradles above the turnip tops. First bird in ,bang , the whole flock lifted out of the trees around the edge of the field and vanished. We waited for an hour and not one returned ,so packed up and moved on. We found some birds sitting in some trees on the edge of another rape field approx 250 , so we left them to look at another field down the road , as we drove into the farm the farmer was walking back with his gun under his arm " Your too late Ive just shot them off" so we turned round and left and went to see a field we shot last week which has now got a gas gun on it but still had birds down on the edges of the field. We returned to the farm with the birds in the trees , we could not see them now and assumed they were down feeding so we drove down to the field only to find the Keeper sitting on his quad having a smoke . he then told us how he drives around every morning to spook the pigeons, Thanks we thought , we keep out of the woods for your pheasants and you spook the pigeons!!!! So we returned to the rape field we shot last week , the birds tended to lay off the field in a small wood across the road , so we acidently turned the gas gun to point at this wood , we then set up on the normal flightline across the field , twelve fresh birds all on cradles no magnet and waited it was now 13.00 and a few birds started to show interest and paid the price , the gas gun kept sending us a steady supply of birds from the small wood . we stopped shooting at 16.00 and picked up ninetyfour pigeons and two crows. The game dealer wrang me to ask if he could pick up at 19.00 tonight so that sorted the weekend out.

loriusgarrulus
I think I have figured out why the dog always looks sad in the photos. He knows when you have the pigeons lined up for the photo shoot its time to go home.

motty
It amazes me how obliging the pigeons are in your area, PC. Obviously you know your stuff and do your homework, but you get the results every week. Not that i hope you do, but i'm just wondering when you are going to fail. I think i would only be able to produce your results at the moment by shooting on maize. Well done yet again.

I can't get anywhere near the numbers that Supertash gets on rape. The pigeons just don't behave well enough. I rarely blank, but i bet i would only scrape double figures on rape at the moment, that's why i haven't bothered. Saying that, i have noticed a slight change in the birds behaviour here in the last few days. I have seen more proper 'spread out' flight lines and less big flocks. I have even seen a few pigeons in mating mode. I may attempt to shoot a few pigeons next weekend, as wildfowling will have finished.

I had strong words with 'Supertash' today and he may well have been compromised and he may post a 'failure' quite soon.

OK.OK.Last week a Farmer kept phoning for me to go and shoot the hundresd of birds on his rape , wev'e been three times before and they just move on. So I agreed to give him a day and I would stay and shoot so FIVE HOURS ,FIVE PIGEON. I happend to mention this to JDog today . Bad Mistake ??? But it only goes to show that I am human and know more about pigeon shooting than the Farmer concerned. The things you have to do to keep your shooting??? But it only goes to show that I am human and know more about pigeon shooting than the Farmer concerned. The things you have to do to keep your shooting? ? ? Well done for doing as the farmer asked. Sometimes you've got to do it. I wouldn't say you failed, as under normal circumstances you would never have shot the field. I tend to find that most farmers have NO IDEA about pigeon shooting. One of the most memorable examples of this was when i got permission to shoot on some pea fields. The farmer told me and my mate that we would be guaranteed to shoot 200 pigeons each on his pea fields. The peas turned out to not even be worth setting up on, and we ended up shooting just over 20 pigeons between us on the rape next door. Without the photographic evidence showing a line of 5 pigeons we cannot really substantiate this report. Perhaps PC doesn't carry single digit numbers to photoshop onto his pictures?
