Davyo
In Durham even if you've never been in trouble they are now even looking at who you associate with.So it's not just about keeping out of trouble,it's don't associate with anyone who has been in trouble. phaedra1106
Mines into Durham for a variation, Postman Pat took 4 days to deliver it to them by 1st class recorded I better not tell them who I associate with on Pigeon Watch, I might never get it back Edited March 6, 2015 by phaedra1106

Carman06
So the association is due to connection where you would have had details taken by the police when with others. I struggle to see how they are able to look at associations if they are not recorded on your police file. What I mean is how do they know you drink regular with a dodgy bloke down the road unless the police have made the connection at some point. Confuses me. Confuses me.Well this is how it goes I hold FAC/SGC as does my 15 yr old son, neither I or my son have had any involvement with the police. However my son is friends of another lad,who also has had no trouble with the law.But he has friends ( we are talking teenagers ) who have. I/ we got 2 visits in one day (the 1st one unanounced ) the 2nd that same day to interview my son.I was told on the 1st visit to have my certs and keys available when the 2nd visit takes place. My son had to justify he did not associate with these lads other than be with his friend at the time. They left satisfied, but we were told that as I have parental responsibility my FAC/SGC would also be removed if my son was found to associate with these lads. The reason my son got connected and we had the visit was purely down to the local PC driving by and had knowledge of my son holding FAC/SGC and jumping to the conclusion these lads where friends of my son. Guilt by association.

Davyo
So they built an association because a PC saw them together in public?Yep thats the top and bottom of it,when I phoned BASC after the 1st visit to prepaire for the second I was advised that they can remove through association and there is little I can do if the association can be proven. We were advised by BASC that we would just have to prove that my son does not associate with them.I beleive that they had every intension of revoking our certs and guns on the 2nd visit as they stated before they left after the 1st one to have all 4 certs and keys to the cabinet available. The reason they visited twice was because my son was at school when the 1st visit took place.
ordnance
Is there something in the firearms legislation that says that your licence can be revoked if the police don't like some of the people you associate with. ?
Davyo
Is there something in the firearms legislation that says that your licence can be revoked if the police don't like some of the people you associate with. ? According to the guy I spoke too at BASC,there is some old thing to do with association that they can enforce.I'm sure David BASC can find out. Carman06
So are they saying we need to request CRB checks for anyone we want to associate with before we can socialise. What if you have no control over the people you associate with? Does this mean no solicitor can have a FAC or SGC as they associate with criminals daily. Or prison guards the same. Possibly, I would be interested to see it in the firearms legislation if anyone can post it.
Scully
I have a mate in Durham who comes over the Fells to shoot with us on occasion, and he had a similar experience to that of Davyo last year. Both him and his son have shot for years but a friend of his sons called round one evening and brought with him another lad who was a bit unsavoury shall we say, perfectly unknown to both my mate and his son, but it became known to the police by some means that this lad had been in the house of a legitimate gun owner. Investigations were carried out and next thing the rozzers turn up at mates house wanting to know the far end of a **** and making it plain that both him and his sons tickets were at risk if there was any substance to claims the lad and mates son were associates. Durham appear to specialise in bolting the door post event. Edited to say I had no idea **** (as in bottom burp) was an offensive word, although I can well understand the ensuing aroma from such as being offensive. David BASC
Davyo, the part of the guidance that Durham, in this instance, seems to be focusing on is in the latest guidance Section 12 Assessing Suitability-page 100 Continuous review 12.40 Forces must have appropriate measures in place to monitor any activity of a certificate holder or associates that has come to the notice of police.
