chady
Hi what do people think to palm swells? I was looking at the beretta 686e but picked up a 725 sporter and liked the feal with the palm swell. The 686 looks good and cheaper and has external chokes! But I like the palm swell but is a lot more and no external chokes? So I'm a bit confused lol I'm going to go and demo them but I like people's opinions. Thx

alastair0903
Personal choice tbh , i like the palm swell and brownings fit me better . You could upgrade to a black edition 725 for extended chokes
chady
I did see them but I'm not that bothered and the extra cost It's just going up and up. Freaks like the browning is expensive compared to the beretta Shame the beretta doesn't have a palm swell!

TIGHTCHOKE
Lol it was ment to be feel Productive text lol. You can have a mars bar for spotting the mistake lol I claim my second mars bar! Seriously though, you will get far more gun for your money if you spend the same amount of money on a second hand gun than a new one! Buy what fits you, if you are not experienced seek help. Good luck.
Uncle Albert
The problem with buying second hand is you don't know how well the gun has been looked after. You can get an idea from dings and scrapes on the wood work but is that abuse or normal wear and tear. It's nice to break in a new one as well. When I bought my 686e I was told it had a ten year guarantee. Nuff said, Ding, Ding, Cash sale!
chady
Thanks all I would like a bit of advice on gun fit as both guns feel nice to the mount, admittingly not shot them yet! Trying to find a good shop though is hard! I went to a big one in Leicestershire and they weren't interested so walked out. They didn't realise they missed out on 2.5k!! So I think a bit of traveling is in order! Thanks
HDAV
Gun shop Rugby mate and forget the chokes they don't make you shoot any better.
a303
On my 725 with extended chokes, the last inch that extended past the barrel never ever got marked with lead streaking etc. I personally think the the extended ones are identical to the flush ones with a parallel inch long section added to em. Never measured em so I may be wrong in my thoughts. Often am funnily enough!
grrclark
I ended up getting the plan swell on my 725 ground down quite a bit and then had to get the checkering re done. It felt great initially which is one of the reasons why I bought it, but after a good bit of shooting with it I found that it caused me to sit my hand too high on the grip and twist the gun. Obviously everyone is different so my experience will be different from yours, but I guess I would say don't get too hung up on the palm swell and if you possibly can try before you buy. Old farrier
Hi Personally hate palm swells feel great in the shop and today on the range great Then the weather turns bad and you need gloves and gun dosent fit 😧 And you end up shooting badly So please think a bit try the gun with gloves unless your only shooting in the summer big investment take your time picking the right gun for you All the best Of
welshwarrior
I'm a palm swell lover I've large hands and it brings the grip into the palm of my hand, I never shoot in gloves on my right hand. I've seen loads of people who's palms well is to big or in the wrong area, these have had to be reshaped and chequered so not a cheap fix. Shoot the guns as much as you can then decide. brett1985
i cant get on with a palm swell when shooting skeet or sporting, but shooting trap its brilliant. funny how preferences change from one discipline to another....
Scully
Two of my guns have palm swells. They weren't a thing I'd given much thought to until then. I quite like them but wouldn't miss them if they weren't there and if having a gun built I doubt I'd ask for a palm swell.
chady
Thanks some very good advice there! Thanks
chady
I'm not really bothered about external chokes, nice but not critical. It worries me about the palm swell now. I'll go and hire one and see how I feel after a couple of hundred carts through it. Jamie

Well worth the trip as you can try the secondhand guns and demonstrators on the clayground there. A lot of their guns are on Guntrader under Derbyshire. chady
Yes I had a drive over to garlands last Saturday and was impressed with them to. I'm going to demo the gun this wekend then have a ring round to get the best price. But I might get the 682 evo. If there is not much difference as there a grand less.
