Dan.
So I have just purchased a brand new CZ455 chambered in .17HMR and I'm looking for a scope to go with it, I have roughly £200 to spend give or take a bit and I'm looking for it to have about 6x18 worth of mag. I am looking at a vortex crossfire ii 6x18-44 ATM as they seem to be a great price for then quality but I'm just wondering if there are any competitions available for the same price range? la bala
Hawke does it for me, Just google all the makes.
tweedledee
Second hand leupold and never look back
wymberley
They're legion, but an excellent condition second hand MTC Genesis is worth a look. I have one on the Anschutz and the fine reticle is ideal for long range bunny head shots.
steve_b_wales
The MTC Genesis is an excellent scope, and if you can pick up a good 2nd hand one, then go for it. Also good for using with a NV set up too.
telf
got to agree with the 2 above
welshwarrior
I would buy a vortex
Hamster
Does anyone rate the Burris for around £200 ? I've been tasked with getting one for a mate who has just bought himself a .270 !
tharsus
Burris is a lot better scope than MTC or Hawke, if the mag suits you buy it, I have owned all three by the way
welshwarrior
Burris are better than MTC but I think Bortex are better than Burris and Leupold.
tharsus
Never even seen a Vortex, reading this review you maybe right though http://opticsthoughts.com/?page_id=
welshwarrior
If your near me if a Vortex you can look at and if you've got a picatinny rail try out.
LeadWasp
Had a look through Larro's Falcon a few weeks ago on his CF - it was optically very clear and seemed a really nice scope. They do a 4-14x44mm menace at just over £200. I have a Vortex Razor red dot - if they build scopes the way they made this then they'll be an excellent recommendation as above. Dan.
The vortex scopes get very very good reviews! And iirc it has a lifetime warranty too!
kyska
Second hand leupold and never look back ^^^^ This, you'd get a Vx1 for 200 quid
Ginger_Swingers
I have a Crossfire II on my .22lr in 4-12x44 V-Plex, bought off here S/H recently and really rate it. Much better than the Hawke it replaced. Can't say how it compares to a Leupold but definitely find it hard to fault the quality of what I can see. I'd have no qualms recommending one
Bewsher500
assume you want a variable? have been through my fair share of £0-£300 scopes on, air, rim and centre fire have moved away from cheaper zoom scopes if you have any requirements on clear glass at low light I have had Vx13-9x40 and 50, V24-14x44, V3 6.5-20x44, hawke nite eye, MTC mamba lite, MTC Viper, Numerous Nikko Stirling zoom and fixed, Burris 3-9x33, S&B 6x44 Nikon zoom and fixed Redfield 3-9x44 Tasco 3-9x50 4-12x50 Walther 3-9x44, 3-9x56 Meopta 6x44 and 7x50, only ones I would buy again in bold but I think you will struggle to get a decent VX1 for £200, The M8 6x44's go for that Meopta is awesome glass for the money I have two and would have another in a flash unless you need the high mag zoom go for a better quality fixed mag it won't stop you shooting, I have a 4x32 on my PCP and I shoot out to 40-50yds no bother fixed 6x44 on my .270 and have shot at 600yds with that! Dan.
After a lot more looking it is going to be between the MTC viper, MTC mamba (both in 4x16-50) or the Vortex crossfire ii (4x16-44). Now I'm getting very very good reviews on all of them but the problem I will have is I cannot look through both at the same time :S
malkiserow
I've a MTC Viper 4-16 x50 sat in front of me here if you want a second hand one in great condition. I take it you like the Heritage Motor Museum from your Avatar?
welshwarrior
Hanser Little bit more say £250 6x42 S&B or 7x50 Meopta would be better.

Savhmr
Had two mtc scopes sold them both.....should tell you something... Have to say that I agree. I had a Mamba. Didn't get on at all with it at higher mags especially. Don't know if mine was faulty but parallax was a real problem with it. Got fed up and sold it for an entry level Leopold. Didn't like that either. Ended up buying a Bushnell Elite 4200 with raingaurd protection. Great scope, still use it 5 years later. Also rate 6x42 Meopta, Nikon and Burris scopes. rarely use more than 9 to 12 times mag even out to 200 yds with the HMR so don't really see any point for hunting in going for ultra high mag zooms. Most are next to useless at higher mags anyway, have poor field of view, and poor optics unless you spend a fortune. Fixed mag will be my next purchase, in all probability a good used 6 x 42.
