Duckandswing
I use 1/4 and 1/2 choke when shooting sporting. Don't see the need for anything else at the distances of most of these clays.
leero84
Cheers , what orientation would that be ? What choke on what barrel . IC is 1/4 going off markings So what would CYL choke be for?
fenboy
It would depend on what clays you are shooting as to what choke , usually the most open choke is in the bottom barrel . 1/4 - 1/2 or 1/2 - 1/2 would be a good starting point for sporting 3/4 - full for trap / DTL and 1/4 or skeet for skeet
Danger-Mouse
My standard set up is cylinder in the bottom barrel and quarter in the top. It seems to serve me pretty well at most grounds. If the first bird is going to be the further away one I just switch to top barrel first. Beechin
I shoot 1/4 & 1/4 works fine for me I sometimes drop a 1/2 in the top barrel for those long distance high towers.
grrclark
Don't get hung up on the choke thing, cylinder and cylinder would be perfectly capable of breaking most clays providing you do your bit and point it in the right direction. Either cyl (5 notches) in bottom and 1/4 (4 notches) in top or 1/4 and 1/2 (3 notches). Fire the bottom barrel first (selector over to the left). With either combo you will be able to consistently break 95% of any presentations you might see. When the remaining 5% becomes a problem start to think about chokes. Also pick a cartridge and stick with it, doesn't matter what you choose they are all better than you
shaun4860
3/8 & 3/8 for me sporting wise for 99% of the targets Keeps it simple
JamesMoody3
I tend to stick quarter and a half in and forget about it. Maybe that's why I'm **** lol
grrclark
3/8 & 3/8 for me sporting wise for 99% of the targets Keeps it simple I would go with that Shaun, but suspect he wont have that option in standard 686 chokes. Keeping it simple stops messing with your head Edited September 3, 2015 by grrclark
bunnykiller
1/4 1/4 for everything other than trap. like Shaun keep it simple.
Trevorevans
1/2 & 1/2 for everything. I'm a sporting shooter but don't change my chokes when I dabble in a bit of trap. When I do shoot trap it's Olympic trap and the brakes are fine.
ehb102
Coach said "change choke, I'll break your fingers" and recommends two halves for anyone of a decent standard. I use a half and 3/8.
Browning725:)
I allways shoot 1/2 in bottom barrel and 3/4 in top

brett1985
been using skeet and quarter for most of my sporting recently. massively surprising how far out a skeet choke will break a clay, and if its looking like a longer shot then quarter does it. obviously, there are limitations... but i've yet to struggle on any local ground. Squinting shot
Don't let chokes get into your head too much. I was advised to use 1/4 and 1/2 1/4 in the bottom ie 1st shot and 1/2 in the top. Find out what brand of cartridges work best in your shotgun. I didn't think their would be much in it but having used different cartridges I can tell the difference. + I followed a shooter the other day who was changing chokes on every stand but it didn't seem to have any real advantage over me with what I use. Happy shooting just keep going and as most PW members will say get some proper training stance and mount is better than choke choice.
