Redditch
So, that was an interesting morning. Was having a nice shoot with a lad I invited from pigeon watch, and we're just discussing packing up, when two "irate" men in overalls come up and say our pellets are hitting the house, the cars, and showering them. Now, I KNOW their house is more than 300 metres away (300 metres being the MINIMUM required safety distance in law), but apologised and remained calm anyway, as the slightest thing and before you know it plod is there to take your guns away. Off they went after a bit, threatening claims for damage, and to call the police etc, and they "have my phone number and car registration" !! So, being a good neighbour we packed up (which we had been planning to do anyway), and went on our way too. NOW, just checked on the distance tool on the iPad, and from where we were shooting (and I've given a good twenty metres nearer to him to be "kind" to his house (again, I've given a good twenty metres nearer to our position, in case he was working in the middle of the road), and it's 440 metres still, so no way could pellets have been "dropping" around him, on him, his home, his vehicles !! Basically, he's just ****** off with us shooting, as he's a townie that moved to the country, and believes in Roald Dahls "Mr Fox" and Beatrix Potters "Rabbit" Edited September 5, 2015 by Redditch
Paul223
Print your map off, set up and if he calls by politely ask him to do one, when the police turn up show them the map and tell them how far the shot will travel, I've posted a picture on here before that has expected distance for shot to carry, print that off too He won't get much change from the police once they work out he's a lying Walter

Apparently the farmer had grief with him before and had the police round, and the previous shooter lost his licence because of this chap. However, I have a map and a range finder if need be. All is in fully legal parameters, just a townie in the countryside being a complete ***** as usual. Why don't they sod off back to their beloved towns ? Grandalf
Wind?? Amazing how far a pellet will travel with the wind. I had this once with a neighbour - He was nice about it and there was no reason not to believe the shot was landing on his house and garden. We were clay shooting on my land. Without measuring it I would say the distance was about the same as yours.

I had this once with a neighbour - He was nice about it and there was no reason not to believe the shot was landing on his house and garden. We were clay shooting on my land. Without measuring it I would say the distance was about the same as yours. Wind was strong 20-25mph, and gusting 30-40 mph, but 90 degrees in to the direction of his house, I.e. Coming direct from the North. To blow it in the direction of his house it would have had to be blowing east to west
Les*1066
Presumably he was being bothered by somebodies pellets, so if they weren't yours then perhaps it would be an idea to find out whose they were before the police become involved. Redditch
Nah, he's just a townie that doesn't like anyone shooting, so his standard beef is "pellets landing on his house and cars, and person" Had it once before, and I was shooting in the complete opposite direction to his house LOL Today, maybe two shots were fired "roughly" in that direction, but again, the wind was against them and would have blown them way off course He lives at the end of a 500 metre driveway/road/lane, and reckons he is the Lord of all he surveys and everything has to go according to his tune Edited September 5, 2015 by Redditch
Dr D
The second I heard the word police you might have reminded him of the law on trespass. The countryside is full of people like that. Had exactly the same thing happen to me a few years ago. Funny thing was that I was shooting in other direction!!!! I stayed. Phoned the farmer. He told me to let him worry about it. I think words were exchanged later with the neighbour.

My farmer has had enough of him, and is thinking of dumping a load of slurry on the field every few days, allow the man the aroma of the countryside day and night LOL

Duckandswing
I live in a semi rural location. A local stopped me today and told me I shouldn't be walking with a gun and shouldn't be killing innocent animals. Firstly, my shotgun was in a sealed leather slip. Secondly, I was walking the three yards from my front door to my car. Thirdly, I was going clay pigeon shooting. I obviously explained this. The lady then said I'm still killing pigeons. I despair. Redditch
800 metres from my house lives this one. BUT, another TWO are building houses just 500 metres from my house, and also on my permissions :( I really despair. There should be a law, complain and be forced to move back to a town, INSTANTLY ......... It seems they DELIBERATELY move into the countryside JUST to create problems. My farmers have more than enough from them, and spend more time in court fighting stupid "townie judge" decisions about how their farms should be run, than actually farming :( Edited September 5, 2015 by Redditch
Redditch
...I take it he brought some of "the pellets" with him as proof?Of course ...... NOT, as there would not have been any. Any damage to vehicles or house they will no doubt Self inflict by chucking gravel. Stupid people think that will fool for forensics if it goes to court

You should never shoot an innocent animal...I avoid this by shooting the ones that have a guilty look about them. you will find almost 100% have such a look. The first time I used this as a response to somebody the couple of people around almost wet themselves with laughter and the anti certainly shut up. Redditch
The clue to keeping your licence here is NOT to rise to their baiting, or they then call plod and say you threatened them and had a gun. Then plod comes and it's good bye FAC (everything here in NI is FAC, if it has an ME of above 1 joule (0.635 ft/lbs) So air rifles, shotguns, and anything else is FAC section one, and they only need a hint of trouble to come round and take it off you. Know at least four lads that have told anti's to take a hike, and promptly lost their FAC for "threatening behaviour"
