billytheghillie
I have started to sweep my chimney, thus saving a few bob. 1st time went well with little mess. Question is I want a block of sponge like my sweep had, he put it in fire place to stop the soot going all over place. Question is where can I get a block of sponge? cheers. jloc
Now tat sounds like a good idea,I usually use a bin line taped up to the opening and just poke the rod through before fitting the brush. Cheers J
Twistedsanity
I've seen a taped bin liner with a Henry Hoover poked through to collect the soot and an old sackcloth with a cut down chimney sweep rod used at the top going from side to side to hold it in place again with a Henry Hoover , if the foam collects the soot you then have a big bit of soot covered foam to get outwithoutcausing a mess? Was just thinking the same thing about the foam.
Sussexboy
If you have a local market you could try there. Ours has a stall that sells all sorts of foam blocks and off cuts.
Mike737
Any upholsterer would be delighted to give you old foam cushion fillings, if that is what you want. It costs us a small fortune disposing of them... Mike.

Pushkin
I use an off cut of of chipboard with a slot cut for the rods (open ended) old foam stuck around the edges of the back and a sheet over the lot - works for me!
