SimpleSimon
Just wondering if anyone has experience or opinions on this: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/screen-3d-kamo-r-hunting-hide-id_8282544.html As I've finally found a couple of people selling DIY pigeon shooting I'm looking at getting some kit together. I wondered if the above item, laid down on one side would form a good basis for a hide. I'm thinking a camo bet draped over it to give a 3D effect and then pegged out to the sides to make the shape more natural. Cheaper and easier than poles and it would offer a bit of shelter against the weather as well. 150x150cm plus a bit of extra net should be big enough for me and the dog to sit behind? Or am I better off with a traditional 4 poles and a camo net?
deny essex
It could have its uses but a net/s and poles are the most versatile imo. I use 3 or 4 poles and one net usually in the summer months, winter shooting I take an additional lightweight net if needed for a little extra cover due to the lack of foliage. stubby
I used something like that but homemade for a few years, placed close to a hedge it worked great without any additional nets, might even buy that, easy and quick to set up/take down
Bluebarrels
Looks okay for the money, used with a clearview net to fill the sides I reckon it would do the job Don't think it would be quite as versatile as poles and netting and might limit you to hedgerows/edges of fields/woods as it would not give all round cover BB
sitsinhedges
Bit tall and you need to be able to see thru a hide ideally to save being spotted looking over the top. Bet it would make a good back to a hide if you set up in a field.
SimpleSimon
Hmm, Thanks folks. Looks like I'll just buy a normal camo net and some poles for now.
craftycarper
I would use it but only for a lid for the top of the hide
WelshMike
I would go down the traditional route of poles and a net. I think it is best to have at least 6-8 poles and 2 nets, more versatile and allows you to set up in more exposed areas.
lakeside1000
I tried an old fishing brolly with a net thrown over the top, nice in summer as a shade, but no good in high winds, on the marshes where cover is hard to find I just lay in any hole or hollow with good camo gear on, just make use of any cover available, something like this will stick out like a sore thumb if there is no natural cover. fortune
25 quid for basically a camo umbrella is a bit silly. Sold by someone who doesn't know anything about pigeon shooting. You can't stand behind a bed sheet and expect to be able to be hidden from view. Quite often it can get very gusty and all you would do is to be chasing it across the field and off into the distance. dannyboy
Any one bought a camo net from Decathlon ? or recommend one to buy?
Dannyboy220
Stealth nets from a1 decoys and I use a jack pyke ghost net also. Works well and can see through both. I do love decathlon in France for shooting gear and clothes though very cheap and reasonable quality I find
