Smokersmith
A chap I know does quite a bit with David. Often now just sitting on his stick waiting for the right bird ... studying the line, and placing his 53g of 3's in just the right spot. Fal
WOW!!!!!!! I wouldn't even bother mounting the gun on most of those!
fortune
4 things that I noticed << 1 for me the video was spoilt by the didley dee music. It's like all of the American videos have to have very loud heavy metal music. 2 good shooting but why is he shooting a lot of birds from over his neighbours head when he has loads of good birds going over him? 3 Was the loader on a bonus for how many cartridges that were shot or was it because he was on camera? He had got his hand on the gun before the second shot had been taken. 4 53gm of #3.really? What ever happened to Eley Grand Prix 1-1/8 oz #6 and shooting at sensible distances. It's getting more like digweed and friends and their hundred yard shots. Other than that it looked like a good day.

We have debated cartridges in the past, and I maintain that the technology in the sport has improved giving rise to new "fashions" and "challenges" that our forefathers didn't have and that there is nothing wrong with embracing that technology if you want to. On the video you hear David describe how one of the drive's tree-lines used to come right down the banks and produce average birds, however now the trees are cut right back and the drive has become one of the best in the country. Our forefathers wouldn't have bothered cutting those trees back because they didn't have the tools to tackle the birds that would be produced in doing so..... We do, and I for one am well in favour embracing it. There will be some who can put a 28gram load in the perfect place every time, I am not one of them (as you may gather from my videos!) so despite the stigma attached, will use a heavy load where necessary to ensure clean kills as much as possible. Great Film and incredible shooting, it is one of my utmost ambitions to be able to shoot Warter Priory one day! SmokerSmith - It would seem that as your shooting in your videos suggest, standards are pretty high in your circles! All the best,
Salop Matt
2) I suspect because this is done in turn as it means the birds are further away and it probobly happens up and down the line to assist in the shooter getting the challenge and satisfaction of the long fast high crosser/quartering bird. The days Dave is shooting on are not going to be average 40 yard birds that most of us are used to, He`s shooting at the very top standard of driven game shooting that there is. 3) When your paying the money Dave will be you want your gun there and ready when "that" bird comes threw that you want to pick out. Am sure Dave controls his loader as required. 4) 53gram 3`s threw full and full - Yes becuase the birds apropriette for Eley Grand Prix 1-1/8 oz #6 just arent challenging enough for a shot who is as good as Dave. While most of us would be well tested with this Dave is a far better than average shot and so to be tested needs the longer, higher, faster birds. But in order to do that you need to use a cartridge and choke choice that is humane on the bird / quarry. I fully admitt I am a massive fan of Daves and would love o one day whitness him shooting game, I also think all of Jonathan`s videos are excellent, you should check out his other videos. ATB Matt I agree they are excellent videos and I'm also a big fan. With regards to shooting neighbouring guns birds, again, I don't see the problem, he's looking for the top 5% or so of challenging birds and over your neighbours peg is a good place to look! High and further out. When I shoot there are always gentleman's agreements in place that one gun can shoot above another's peg if that bird is better sport for him, provided the gun isn't already mounted on it. I wouldn't do that without asking on a stiff formal day with strangers but I'm sure Dave knows the guys he's shooting with, otherwise they would have got a shock when he turned up with a film crew! I fully agree, and if you watch all of his vidoes he doesnt shoot them when the other gun can and also you will see a few lower ones being taken by others closer to Dave and on the one he even calls out "nice shot" or something along those lines. Am really looking forward to seeing this seasons films of Dave from Jonathan
E.w.
In my opinion Dave carrie is one of the top ten game shooters in the UK,my brother has shot with him and says he's the best in the country on game.
m greeny
Pfffffftttt high birds my eye there nearly on the end of his barrels. Suberb shooting once again and judging by the sheer numbers of birds i dont think the guys on the pegs either side would be bothered if Dave shot them over them
Scully
I think Jonathan McGee films are the most enjoyable I've seen. Superb photography in stunning scenery and with good shooting. Good sledging territory.
shoot and be safe
Enjoyed watching the video and to be fair a great shot. As for taking birds from over his neighbours heads, it looked like a short line of guns with them being pegged relatively close together (it could have been the camera angle). He shot a fair few and also missed a few. But to a man of his ability, the ones he shot were sporting to him. His loader definitely earned his tip and I wouldn't want to put that many 53g recoils through my shoulder. Fair play to the man.
gunners
I noticed that Paul and Barry Simpson were shooting. Simpsons of Newmarket. Nice shooting

dannyboy
nice to see good solid kills too, amazing at that range thinking how many birds are pricked on your average shoot.
Salop Matt
I bet not many are pricked with shot size 3, a single pellet of that size is going to do some damage surely ! ATB Matt

ATB Matt You would be surprised , they still need to hit something vital , I shot a mallard this week using steel 3s, it flew on a good way , fortunately it was still retrieved . On plucking it there were 4 pellets in it two of which had gone clean through. Lead may be a little more leathal but still needs to be in the right place. Shooterluke
Got to agree with the comments on dave being a good shot .......dave is up there with some of the best in clay shooting in the country in my opinion he has won big fitasc comps a couple of times hes just recently won the 100 all round yorkshire championship shooting a 100 straight winning his son in law mark winser . Hes no muppet with a gun an to the comment saying about his loader grabbing his gun wouldent you want to get your £2600 moneys worth out of the day . fern01
I have seen Dave shoot on several charity clay shoots and he and his four man team are all outstanding clay shots. Jonathon must be the best film maker of field sports I have seen. Edited December 2, 2015 by fern01
