Im still not seeing anyone threatening to shoot a keepers legs.

The one you posted was a criminal threatening to cave someones head in with a baseball bat.

And someone threatening that if said "criminal" took a step towards him he would shoot him. I'm not saying the keeper was in the right either, but I'd be worried about someone who's first resort, rather than talking,or taking a step back or even giving a good right hook is to shoot a man.

We have different views then.

You seem to be more worried about a man minding his own business and threatening to act in self defence than a nutter threatening to cave his head in with a baseball for no reason.

Still dont see where you get that there was a keeper involved though.

Man making threats & saying he will carry them out needs his firearms removed, phone your FEO immediatley!

Exactly Davyo. This thread is getting silly. And some of the posts are quite alarming if i'm honest :unhappy: . Threats of violence, particularly by people holding FAC's and SGC's should be reported. There is simply no excuse regardless. This is an open forum and all and sundry have access to it. Don't give antis fuel for the fire!!!!!

Pat

Whilst I'm not advocating the way some of you have been approached, you have to remember that some keeper's, and especially young, low paid underkeepers live and die (metaphorically) by their results on a shoot day. Their boss has sunk huge amounts of money into the day, and a syndicate aren't going to be too happy if their day is short, they don't care why. Those few bad days can mean the difference between having a roof over your head or not

Exactly right, often a keeper is only as good as his last day, some shoot owners are completely ruthless hiring and firing keepers. Your good day on pigeons could be putting the keepers job and home at risk if it results in a bad day game shooting.

Everyone should be on the same side, so really no need for threads like this.

While i know a few keepers who would go on like that intially u just wait till they blow out and quieten down,.

On a shoot big enough to have head/beat/under keepers u could very easily be talking thousands of pounds of rent if not tens of thousands, that ammount of cash does/should give them a bit of a say in the matter as it is big money nowadays

Really the farmer should be saying give the keeper a bell/text and check its ok to go to such and such a field, it might be a pita for u but it is the keepers job/house on the line.

Every shoot/drive is different some may not be affected by blasting away but many would be ruined by it, i've seen on some drives simply slamming a car door to hard is enogh to get the birds heads up and legging it out the back or sides of a drive. At this time of year may have took a keeper days/week to get birds back into drives after being shot

Dont know what folks have read on this thread but these are the "facts" as posted by the OP.

He was shooting on private land, where the landowner had asked him to shoot and even put a bale hide up.

The keeper came on to the private land, and was trespassing, meaning he had no right to be on that land.

The keeper then threatened to knock him out if he didnt **** off the land.

Now,if these are the facts why seriously would the keeper have a leg to stand on,even without the phantom leg shooter in attendance?

You can make up all the excuses you like but if it was an anti doing it to an estate the whinging would be deafening.

had a couple of run ins with a keeper and his "mate" while doing a bit of greenlaning with a group of mates, they'd set the pens up right next to the lane and were using the lane for access. we really couldn't give a monkies where they set there pen up but we weren't going to be told that we weren't allowed down the lane, maps were brought out, words were exchanged, guns were pointed and the police were called, they checked over our bikes with a fine toothed comb and all was well, the keepers were escorted down the local nick, not sure what happened to them after that but we didn't see them or the pens again.

Exactly the only one in the wrong was the keeper  the chap shooting was doing nothing wrong. The problem imho is some people shoot on land without knowing how they stand should this sort of incident happen, and often react in a way to make the situation worse.

I always pack up and go home,it diffuses the situation straight away and I get to shoot another day.The land I shoot belongs to the farmer I shoot for not me,once things calm down I will approach the farmer and discuss/make him aware of the incident and take it from there, its always worked for me :good: BB

But the first thing I always do if approached by anyone is take both carts out of the gun, leave the gun broken and turn the gun around so the barrels are facing away from the person/persons approaching so I make myself less threatening

Im the total opposite in that i will stand my ground to the max.Years ago i would get upset but now no threats,no raised voice and actually will laugh if they start talking ***** and that doesnt really help the situation either.

However,if i have any doubts that i may be in the wrong ill get the phone out and make a call to the landowner to clear things up.

Yep I guess different things work for different folk mate :good:

I just work on the basis I would sooner loose one days shooting, than getting into a heated argument and losing all my shooting :good: BB

I totally see your side BB,but i wouldnt get heated unless it became physical but then you are negating that happening by leaving which could be the more sensible option.

Hope you have a top Xmas fella.Might be seeing a few of the old troops over the holidays for a wee tizer or two. :friends:

Some people have an odd perspective, how can someone approaching anyone in an aggressive manner without any instigation ever be the right way of dealing with a situation, never mind them being a 'game keeper' !

They're adults the same as everyone else so I don't know why people make so many excuses for it, fairly basic stuff people skills.
