VicW
Never simply accept your renewal quote without trawling around including your existing company as new business. The renewal quote is simply accepted by most people without question and this what the company are relying on. Vic.

steve_b_wales
My renewal quote came through from LV. I checked on two comparison websites for a better deal. Then phoned LV with my findings, and they reduced the quote by £63.00, which was only £7.00 more than the cheapest online quote, so I stayed with LV as I've always had good service off them. chady
I bought a new car the week before my policy ran out! Phoned my insurance company up and to renewal came back to £850 for said car! Laughed. Went on compare the meerkat and got it for £300!!! How can there be so much difference between companies

BangBangNik
BBN Who is your insurer? Octagon. Never heard of them untill I got a quote on a comparison website 3 years ago. Fortunately I have never needed to use them so cannot vouch for how good they actually are.
keg
Some will pull you in with a cheap offer then slowly increase. Some will hope you don't look around at renewal time. Some will use a different underwriter from one year to the next. No rhyme or reason sometimes.
BangBangNik
there must be enough people that don't shop around to warrant putting the renewal prices up or they wouldn't do it. suppose they only need a few. according to martin lewis (money saving expert guy) 70% of people have never changed their gas and leccy supplier!!!! beggars belief! subsonicnat
Two Years Back, insurance company I had been with for 5 years, gave me a quote of £650 for a 10 year old car.. Looked around got the Fully Comp, Protected, for £190.00.. The only thing I lost was Green Flag cover.. They all try to fleece you every year.... ElvisThePelvis
The problem of market cycle, if your premium should be say 300, someone will quote 200 but others quote 400, obviously we buy at 200 then next year it goes up to 400, someone else quotes 200 so we move.. Continue ad nauseum.... When I called my insurance company having found a cheaper quote they knocked 200 off to undercut..madness! Is there anything less interesting than shopping for insurance? Danger-Mouse
I`ve been shopping around today. Quite ridiculous the difference in prices. The cheapest I`ve found is £365 but other were quoting £1200 and that`s for 3rd Party F&T on a 14/15 year old car.

Just fed in the identical conditions to my existing policy and found a lower price with LV than they quoted me. When questioned they reduced my renewal to just below the lower quote I'd found. TONY R
With LV we found if you ignore the renewal and just buy it online a day after it lapsed it saved quite a bit of money.

Davyo
I dont even wait for the renewal now, i get my insurance sorted within the timescale you can get new quotes. When the renewal drops i just call and say no thankyou already taken care of..They usually say why and i reply because you wait until the last 2 weeks to send me a renewal and try and rob me blind, hoping i wont be bothered or have time to look elsewhere...and then they have the nerve to try and match it ! wymberley
tell me WHY DO THEY KEEP ON DOING THIS !!!! Because the law allows them to. It's well known that in financial businesses 'customer loyalty' is a contradiction in terms Making it illegal to attempt to charge an existing customer more than a new one for the same service with the penalty, say, being 10 times the amount involved having to be paid to a charity of the customers' choice would be popular with everyone except the businesses concerned. In the few minutes it took me to sort my problem out I could have earned, say, Cancer Research £200.
