Guest stevo
21gram comp x Fenboy used to use these but found they were a bit on the punchy side , however for the average lady who is not used to recoil they would be a great starting point . To be honest if it were up to me the starting point would be a suitable gun and cartridges and an hour with a decent coach. I've seen so many women holding their boyfriends heavy gun as if it were a distress flare as they fired far too heavy shells thru them. Start them off properly or you'll likely just put them off forever. Bumped in to a friend of mine a few weeks ago giving his daughter and mates a go. It was an 8lb Beretta shooting 28gram shells and the girls must have weighed about 8 stone if that. They didn't stand a chance.
kingo15
I taken the other half shooting and used the 21g comp x and she has no pain threshold yet didn't moan about them. More about the weight of the gun.

figgy
If you can and the girls are able to hold one up,a gas operated semi-auto is great as they have only a single barrel are easy to swing around. They could then shoot 24g or a soft shooting 28g like Hull Superfast. My wife can't hold a semi auto up so I cut down the stock and barrels on my old side by side. At 24 1/2" and cylinder no choke barrels she finds this ok with 21g Hull Comp-X Also a Hatsan youth model 20 bore semi auto would be a good option with 24g carts. buze
My wife shoots 21g thru her 20g -- she does have a bit of a bruise on the shoulder after shooting this week-end (she shot 100 shells), and the gun kicked her last month, leaving her with a bruise on the face! She's a tough girl, and yes, she'd like to shoot 28g (and 12g!!), but I think right now since she hasn't the gun mounting 'bedded in', there's still too much of a risk of her getting bruised. And well, she does weights and so on, but quite frankly she can barely shoulder my B25 12g trap! Perhaps a semi-auto is the best bet, if you have a choice, I think the first impression of shooting makes all the difference; if they break clays instead of being sore for a week, there's a lot more chance they'll come back! BerettaSV10
Hull comp X 21g gets my vote, if using a 12 bore, though I would not use the Hull superfasts in an o/u they are far to punchy and would soon put a lady shooter off shooting. Danger-Mouse
Fenboy used to use these but found they were a bit on the punchy side , however for the average lady who is not used to recoil they would be a great starting point . Another vote for 21gm Comp X. We use those for all beginners and very few complain about the recoil. We always tell them it`s just the bang of the gun going off that may freak them out a bit at first. Evo 21gm are also nice and soft, or the 24gm in a semi. sitsinhedges
21gram will kill most clays easily anyway. It's all I use by choice in my 20 gauge and can match most folk shooting 28gram loads.
pontbeck
For all beginners, whether male or female, 21 grams for first lesson, until they are used to the experience
BlaserF3
For all beginners, whether male or female, 21 grams for first lesson, until they are used to the experience There are some 21gm loads out there which have more recoil than a soft shooting 24gm. Ttfjlc
There are some 21gm loads out there which have more recoil than a soft shooting 24gm. Agree with this entirely, comp x and fiocchi tt21's are soft but I found the NSI's budget 21g load quite punchy.
