How do they know??

I noticed pheasants strutting their stuff in the fields just to taunt me........ why do they do that? how do they know? Would they read the mood of the people better than politicians?

I came home today to find a cock pheasant laying down in the middle of my garden, eyes half closed sunning itself. The chickens were keeping a wary distance and when I went outside it just stood up and lazily ambled away into the field.

I took the dog out into the garden for a leak and there were three woodies just siting on the lines above us at the edge of the garden. They were totally unphased by our presence. I even whistled the dog to heal and held her head up to look at them. ( Why is it that when you want to show the dog something. it struggles like mad to look anywhere other than where you want it to look) The pigeons did slowly fly off then, except one that just remained looking down at us. ( probably thinking you traitorous animal dog) So the reverse of this is when I go out to the wood and round the corner, hundreds of birds on a field of rape 400 paces or more away all lift up as one as if I had launched the 270 off at them? Why is it that when you are out decoying and nothing has come in for more than half an hour and you decide that the day is over and you leave the gun in the hide to go out and pick up the decoys that suddenly you have birds trying to come into the pattern that you are standing out in the middle of?
