Brodie
Going to take my grand-daughter clay shooting. She has shot before with the army cadets but has suffered from recoil. I'm thinking Hull CompX but would appreciate your thoughts. If I go for CompX are the 21g any good or should I stick with 28g and put more shot in the air. Or go for another cartridge that does 24g. decisions, decisions? Thanks in advance
Glenlivet
I'm using Comp X 28g at the moment and don't really notice any difference compared to Hull Superfast or Velocity+. But I don't really notice recoil anyway.

shaun4860
Comp X 21g, I used to use them all the time due to shoulder issues, never really affected my scores, I tried most cartridges and found nothing softer on the shoulder, They won't affect her scores, it's what I would get for her
Harry136
We use Eley 28g sub-sonic at our club for novice shooters, very little recoil! Edited March 23, 2016 by Harry136
Ttfjlc
Compx 21g or fiocchi TT21'S are your best bet.
Wingman
My Mrs uses gamebore evo 21G's in my winchester and gets on well with them. If it was my 9 year old I would use those. Edited March 23, 2016 by Wingman
sitsinhedges
My 391 Urika Light was cycling 21gram Comp X at the weekend I had bought a box for my Missus to try as she has suffered quite badly with arthritis and can't cope with getting bashed up but she was fine with these. BerettaSV10
Comp X 21g is the one to go for, and definitely not superfasts they punch hard on ones shoulder.
Brodie
Thanks for all your replies. I'll go with the majority and get a slab of 21gm CompX and see how we get on.
ehb102
CompX 21g 7.5 will see you right. I use them at registered shoots and there hasn't been anything they couldn't break.
Shropshire_Lad
We used compx21g on a simulated driven day at Carrog . Great to use and soft on the shoulder even after 400+ cartridges. Some really high birds that were well hit if you got your bit right lol.

Westley
You have not stated the age or build of your Grandaughter, but please be careful in your choice of gun and cartridge for her first attempt, or you may just put her off completely. My thirteen years old slightly built Grandson is currently using a 28 bore with a 13" stock, fitted with a Kick-Eeze pad and 16 gram cartridges. His 9 years old brother is using a 12" stocked .410, but with the same loaded cartridges. Can you not ask the ground if they have a small guage and shorter stocked gun that you could use ? You have already said that she "suffers from recoil" how do you know, unless she has complained ? I used to shoot clays on a Military Range and the 'Instruction' that the Cadets received made me cringe. They used an assortment of cheap and nasty 12 bored guns, all too long for the majority of them, and the biggest assortment of ****py cartridges they could find, including 32 gram + large shot things. I think the 'Instructors' tried to give these kids the biggest beating, without actually touching them, that they could. I hope your Grandaughter did not receive the same level of 'Instruction' ! Wb123
My other half insists on compX 21g, lylvale 21g kick remarkably badly in comparison. Hull are now doing a slower 19g i would be interested to try, but the 21g compx make a soft pop and then the clay breaks.
team tractor
I use Eley Amber cartridges which are 21g 8's I think but designed for girls . I was told to try them for the Mrs and she used half a box before she moaned lol . Normal 28g she can't use as it knocks her over my mrs is 8st tho Edited March 23, 2016 by team tractor
