Davyo
Driving through Hartlepool (Hart village down past the Hospital) the other day I noticed the contractors out putting in the wild flower beds they had in last year.It was a beautiful sight last year with a sea of colour all through the summer into late autumn with the colours changing month to month.Much better than the uniformed beds of polyanthas and the likes. Is there any other Authorities doing this though out the UK pigeon watchers? winnie&bezza
Here in Kent we had a bypass built about 5-6 years ago after much contesting from locals. They planted wild flower seed to appease on all the hilly verges and on the roundabout and when in bloom it looks lovely.

Pushkin
Nearby town has been doing this for a few years now. Looks like they are starting to dig trenches for new pipes or similar but then they back-fill and plant the seed at the same time. You can get all types of mixes from colour co-ordinated to sizewise etc. Does look good though when they flower. I think they will be good for the bees? Sunny days Pushkin. 100milesaway
Just after the first roundabout on the left, on the way to Hodnet, there are two large areas of land which they were just about to seed with wild flowers. They look super when the are in bloom. The small village of Crakehall between Bedale and Leyburn has a super plot of wild flowers down by the river also done by the local council. In Austria the goverment gives a reduction in the rates payable to locals to put flowers on their balconys and window bottoms... from Auntie. andrewluke
in our local paper this week the council are asking people to plant a patch of wildflowers in their gardens to help moths, butterlies and other insects/nature,the same council is quite happy to dig up and build on any bit of green land they own inc green field sites
oowee
None around here. Last year I put a bed of annuals in as a nurse crop for perenials. Its was lovely but as Ditchman says the seed is so expensive. £140 for not a lot. Fingers crossed i get some show this year as I cant tell weed from flower. r1steele
Swansea council used wild flowers on all our roundabouts and any bits and bobs of waste land last year an I thought to myself how much better it looks compared to the usual bedding plants used. My parents were down from Northumberland last August and it was the first thing my old man commented on.
Paul taylor
We got quite a lot of wild flowers planted around the roads of Rotherham Davey, was only commenting to mrsT half an hour ago how nice they are. Hope your well and still strumming that guitar pal👍
figgy
Hartlepool had the central verges for a good stretch on the A689 seeded. Just been redone and will be up soon. Must save the councils a fortune on bedding plants as seeding is quick and cheap and lasts the whole season, everywhere else needs to be replanted for the seasons. scotslad
i would put a lot more wild flower seed mix in my garden.........trouble is the packs are sooo expensive Where are u looking for them? will be dear in garden centres From game cover boys, kings, brights, oakbank etc i never though thtey were very dear at all, well similar to game cover seeds dependent on type/mix. I'm sure with brights u could get small tubes for a few quid that will do a few msq. Not looked at prices this year but thought there usually around £30 - 60 a pack which usually covers an acre, but they should keep with the right storage. Can get plenty other wildlfie friendly mixes, wild bird seed, brood rearing, nectar rich etc.

Davyo
More to the point Davyo what were you doing in Hartlepool, you take your passport and your inoculation certs Didn't need it figgy, there was no border control on at Hart village they must be letting you lot wander lately. Popped into Mc Donalds, had to go in as there was 4 of us & an order at the drive through for more than one becomes a bit challenging lol. Went to the counter and when I read out my order, the lad he just looked at me like he was about to have a **** and stamp in it. Any how the order I didn't ask for was ok. figgy
At least you get to look at the flowers going home full of food you didn't want I always say to my wife check the bag for the right food, too many times I've got home unpacked the bag for one child to ask where their food is.
