Davyo
Well i dont know who are the bigger theives, the scum who stole the rear window from my Jimny early Sunday morning or this joke of an insurance company. Remember the fact that the window was stolen, not chipped or cracked or broken by vandals. When reported on Sunday morning (Tesco Insurance) they said get Auto windscreens out £75 excess but the window seal was ruined as they had used a knive of some sort to to remove the glass.A new seal is £70,so my repair totals £145.I questioned the insurance company today and gave them the crime number as forensics had finished dusting the car ect(a spec of blood was found on the spare wheel) Now they are saying they wont cover cost of the seal but will cover the window minus £75 under the windscreen cover.I kept telling them that the screen was stolen(theft)not broken,in which case,i should only pay the £50 compulsary excess (dont have a voluntary & my claims bonus is protected).Anyhow i told them thanks for the support(not) and ive had to cover the cost myself.I thought theft as it clearly is should come under a insurance claim (forced entry)not the windscreen cover. GingerCat
Bet they count that as a claim come renewal time.
FalconFN
Bet they count that as a claim come renewal time. They will, any incident is counted even if you don't claim anything. Sometimes it's better just to keep quiet and fix it yourself - although they'll probably count that as a breech of contract if they found out too... Lloyd90
I'd be onto their complaints dept and asking for the reference to pass onto ombudsman etc etc
Houseplant
I can't help, but you have my sympathy. When I lived in London, I had one of the headlights stolen from my car, an older Peugeot. Following this, the radiator was stolen. Everyone thought it was a big joke, communicating to the insurance call centre in India that the radiator rather than the radio had been stolen was like banging my head against a brick wall. It was at a time when I was broke, so it felt like the end of the world. Edited June 14, 2016 by Houseplant
wymberley
Bet they count that as a claim come renewal time. Good point. I wouldn't wait until then, but get in touch and ask them to confirm (in writing) that your claim was actioned under the windscreen element of your insurance. norfolk dumpling
Have you checked the two policy sections as my own are distinctly different and I'm positive this would come under "...theft or attempt thereof" as opposed to "..breakage of glass in windscreen or windows". sportsbob
I would guess that a claim under the windscreen cover would be better in the long run even if it does cost a little more with the uninsured extras as a proper claim will cost you the excess and then the load on the premium for three to five years. A claim under the windscreen element of the cover is a separate policy so it does not effect the main policy.
Davyo
Got new screen fitted Tuesday after getting the seal from Suzuki.Still not happy with insurances take on it,even the police found it strange "an item removed from a vehicle is theft" & i did my part by reporting it for what it was. Brodie
Can you report the insurance company for theft of your money?
bostonmick
You could give the ombudsman a call.they are very good.i once had a disagreement over the value of a vehicle I had stolen and they made a call to the insurance company which resulted in a cheque for another thousand pounds arriving a few days later.it costs nothing to enquire
Marty123
The first thing you need to do is make a formal complaint to your insurance company, the contact details for this should be in your policy docs. This will normally sort things as any referrals to the Financial Ombusman are chargeable to the insurance company. Once the complaint is received they have a maximum of 8 weeks to reply. If you still aren't happy with their response then you can refer to the ombudsman who will investigate your complaint. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted.
