Vince Green
PPU is more or less all we ever use on the ranges at Bisley. Its very good stuff, as with all ammunition, some rifles like it more than others but the general opinion is high

scobydog
Used the 130 and 150 grain in my .270, they were very good no issues with stray shots and took several deer with them, also use the 45 grain in my 22 hornet and again no probs a lot of foxes and rabbits taken with them. robbiep
As said, some rifles like it, others don't. In my 223 Rem, the 55gr and 69gr PPU struggles to get a 4" group. Yet the even cheaper GECO FMJ in 55gr is absolutely fantastic, producing really nice groupings (apart from when the numpty on the trigger gets it wrong). steve_b_wales
I can never find it for sale near me Henry Krank are, I believe, the importers of PPU ammunition/cases. They can send some to your nominated RFD for around £4.00. This is what I paid back last year. Contact them for prices.
Alpha Mule
My .22-250 loves 'em! However: I'm not so keen using them on the ginger wildlife as I find it pokes holes straight through them. But they are extremely acurate (when I get it right). dodeer
Cheap for a reason! Quality costs in everything in life. I used them in various calibres and found they didn't expand well.
scobydog
Cheap for a reason! Quality costs in everything in life. I used them in various calibres and found they didn't expand well. Never found any problem with them not expanding well, as for being cheap nothing wrong with that if it works well which it has always done for me, although there has been reports of hard primers in some 22 hornet rounds but i think that was just in the states. I have used hornady and remington in my 270 and they would not group well at all even at 150 yds, thought it was me but my stalking mate couldn't group well with them either, also found it to be very clean not leaving much residue at all. As said some rifles like it some don't you pay your money and take your chances. Atb Scobydog
dodeer
The grouping wasn't a problem, it was the pencil like expansion in .25-06, .30-06 and various other calibres I used them in. Used on Roe, Sika and Boar and didn't like them at all sadly.
scobydog
Fair enough dodeer, last ones i used were on Roe and the exit wound was @ size of a tennis ball, also used on foxes @ 250 yds and did a great job. Vince Green
Its a known fact that PPU bullets are designed not to expand as much as the American bullets. The Americans seem obsessed with getting the maximum expansion even if it is at the cost of meat damage.
dodeer
Well I know what I'd rather use on humane grounds. Hornady SST is a great round
pstenson123
I use ppu 55 sp in 223 & I'm well happy with them, never fail to expand on gingers, never he'd a runner yet!
old man
Seen them used in .308 on Munties and Basils. Worked superbly . 4 shots 4 kills and no runners! Cases brilliant for reloading too.

Daveo26
Spoke to kranks about this very subject yesterday. PPU did not export to the US until this year......... As a result kranks are not receiving the amount they were. I would expect PPU bullets to get rare now.

As a result kranks are not receiving the amount they were. I would expect PPU bullets to get rare now. I don't know if that's totally correct, PPU and S&B are well known brands in the states and very popular on the budget mail order ammo websites. So although they may not have been exporting it themselves it has been finding its way there in quantity for some time. I know because the .303 / Lee Enfield websites, which have a big following in the US, have rated PPU as the best .303 ammo available for quite a few years now. Lots of yanks refer to using PPU. and I have spoken to them about the prices over there.
welshwarrior
I get my 8x60 ppu brass from the US as we can't get it here have done for 4-5 years now.
Daveo26
Fair enough. I was asking about .17 HMR ammo or lack of it and we got onto PPU and that is what he told me. Nothing getting to the uk at the minute it's all going to the states. Suppose we will have to wait and see

Redgum
I bought 40 rnds for my first 243, was a put off by the different reports they made and they did not group well, this is quite a few years ago and at the time a lot of others had problems with them. I started reloading shortly after that as the 243 only really liked RWS and it was a bit pricey, not shot a factory rnd ( oh apart from rimfire ammo ) since. If it works then it works.
