kingsy18
Been toying with either getting a hmr or 17 hornet for a while now ,got rid of hmr about 6 months ago know because i was always getting fliers with the ammo ,can any hmr users tell me if ammo has improved at all as there as been issues with the ammo.Rifle will be used mostly on rabbits as i find hornet a bit pricey at £1 a pop. Craig83
My wife had a .17 hornet, very good little round. But now she prefers the .204 Ruger, i think if your going to go .17 centre fire, you might as well get a .20 give you the extract ooomph

bazzab
I have hmr and wmr.... Don't really have any issues with either. Wmr is a bit more but I don't think enough to worry about. The extra thump etc is worth extra cost imo. But no I rarely have any fliers bud. If I do... a good clean and we are bang on again. Hope that helps. Bazza. Rimfireboy
I've been getting good results with the Winchester HV varmint so I'm sticking with them while they're continuing to give me good consistent results. Had problems in the past though with other brands. So far, so good with the Winchester HV's though.
Whitebridges
Speak as you find. Lot's of bad things said about the .17hmr. Split cases and bullet stuck in the barrel etc. Never a problem for me. My go to bunny gun. Brilliant round.
Daveo26
Iv never had a problem with my HMR. Seem to get a lot of bad press now. Iv had mine 5-6 years and it's had lots of use. Still does the same 1" groups at 100 yards it always has. bore looks perfect
Pigeon Shredder.
Using my HMR this afternoon in very windy conditions out to 100 mt's and found that I needed to correct by about 70mm to the left as the 17gr was being blown off centre line, in the morning there was no wind to speak of and no error incurred, first time that I have noticed the amount of wind induced error. Also never had a problem with ammunition, use Winchester or CCI 17gr always bang on the money at 100 mt's, no hang fire's and always check the case's after purchase for damage etc. Very potent round for the purpose. I am currently thinking of getting a putting variation in and going over to wmr already have a 17 just every time I go out tend to always pick the hmr over 22lr, got my sub12 pcp already for quiet vermin control my mate uses his 22wmr to great success for rabbits and foxes on his permissions noticed a few members on here use both 17 and 22 magnum rimmies
soulboy1957
Had a .17 hornet for a while now, brilliant round, fills the gap between.22lr and .222,deals with foxes out to 200yds and superbly accurate bunny round......BUT no really viable unless you reload. Craig83
Ooooh .222 I miss mine. I was making good accurate ammo at around 9p a round. A lot cheaper than HMR

rapid rich
Ooooh .222 I miss mine. 9 pence a round?? Surely impossible?? Wouldn't even cover price of powder? barbel
never had a problem with hornady or Winchester, love using it for rabbits.
mick miller
Unless you have no worries about money, or reload, the 17 hornet is not viable. I reload and 50 17hh cost about £4.50 to £5 more. That said you'll get greater speeds, way longer ranges, less wind drift, more reliable and consistent results and a way more effective round on fox. Head shot rabbits are still just as useable. The rifle itself is slightly heavier and 8in longer than an hmr, but the trigger (in CZ) is leaps and bounds better, the action is better, the crown is better and it's a genuine small calibre, full bore rifle. Personally, I would never go back to an hmr. Inconsistent ammo, spilt necks, squib and stuck rounds, I've had them all. You'll never be able to match a factory consistency to a hand loaded round. It just comes down to whether you can be bothered to reload? The other issue with reloading is the lack of availability of dies and associated components (flash hole uniforming and deburring tools, dies are not widely available) but, you can order them from the right sorts of suppliers (so not Kranks or Sportsmans then!). Dekers
There is apparently a new HMR semi Auto ammo, which is meant to work!!!! I know nothing about it and don't even know if its available in the UK.
Rimfireboy
Is it these?
Fisheruk
Yep, that is it. Saw it in the States last time I was there. I am still not sure I would want a semi in 17hmr, even if they were legal in the UK.
