SuperGoose75
I wouldnt class myself as a major Tennis fan and my interest is limited to The French open "roland garros" and Wimbleldon so my opinion might not account for much. I am not a fan of the Man at all and have no clue how the Ranking/Points system works to be considered the World Number 1 tennis player . But the way I see "could be well off the mark" is that' this is a case of being World Number 1 on paper only . For me 'A fit and healthy' Novak Djokovic is Not only a far superior Tennis player but also a more likable person who oozes Class on and off the court. If i was a betting man and Murray was playing Djokovic Ten times back to back' My money would bet the "Serb" woud win at least 8 out of the 10 matches. kyska
Now 56. A few years ago I saw him in an Argentina shirt supporting them in preference to the home countries. Horrible little ****. I note that too. He's not British but 'Scottish' So he'd not accept the ridiculous notion of a knighthood. A knight? Don't get me wrong, there are lots that don't deserve them, sportsman are at the bottom as far as I'm concerned.

I believe David the first of Scotland was one of the first Monarchs to bestow knighthoods on his subjects in the early 12th century.. game set and match ?? Lets not forget the charity work he has done for Children of all nationalities also.... perhaps the memory of his and his brothers narrow escape of a shooting tragedy at Dunblane had a bearing on this but his philanthropy is well recognised. I think some should cut him a bit of slack to be honest..after all his ancestors are probably more British than us French. miroku_fan
If you simply focus on what Murray has achieved in tennis then you begin to realise what a phenomenal success he has become. He is without question a hugely talented player who has put his heart and soul into becoming as good as possible. The problem that Murray has faced is that he is playing in an era when there has been so many tennis "greats" competiting with him at the highest level. He has been overshadowed by them at times but his grit and determination has finally got him to the point of being the best of the very best. When he eventually retires the UK will once again become a backwater in world tennis singles. The UK has produced one or two "also rans" in world tennis over the years but Murray stands head and shoulders above them in what he has achieved. He should be applauded as a world class performer in a high profile sport and not berated as a person and his success belittled. He makes an excellent role model for any young sportsperson who aspires to perform at the highest level. I am not a tennis fan but I respect what Murray has achieved and saddened by some of the views expressed on this forum.

Kalahari
Well I have enormous respect for Andy Murray. His work ethic and support for Great Britain is fantastic. I am not a huge tennis fan but was lucky enough to be gifted a couple of Wimbledon tickets for number one court and enjoyed the experience. I will probably never be that lucky again but if you haven't tried it perhaps you shouldn't condemn it. David.

Gordon R
Adge -:- http://www.totalsportek.com/list/most-difficult-sports-in-the-world/ - tennis makes number 10. http://examinedexistence.com/which-sport-requires-the-most-athleticism/ - tennis makes number 7. Watching any event live is a bit subjective. Tennis players might be fit, but the strongest - you are having a laugh.
miroku_fan
At least his golden tennis racket will fit in his mouth. His gawping tantrums and antics are reflected in the performance of youngsters on the school tennis courts unfortunately. I suppose you would prefer the likes of Tim Henman who was an absolute gentleman on court. During TV interviews he came across as a very pleasant and affable young man. The problem was that he did not have the ability nor the drive to win consistently at the highest level. Murray has struggled over the years to manage his emotions but he is an out and out winner. Lewis Hamilton is another sportsperson who comes across as an obnoxious, conceited, arrogant young man with a very volatile personality. He also happens to be one of the greatest drivers that has graced the Formula One circuit. Not every top sportsperson has an amicable personality. Murray has demonstrated recently that he can manage his emotions and cope with the stress of the big competitions far better now than when he was a youth. Children do copy what they see. Tennis is no different from football or any other sport in that youngsters make a point of mimicking the " tantrums and antics" of their heroes . This is on many occasions is condoned and reinforced by over zealous parents. It is only a select few youngsters who can replicate the ability of the elite sportsperson, with or without the challenging attitudes and behaviour. Sportspeople like Murray and Hamilton live for competiting at the very highest level. They have little in common with the recreational player. The pressure that they are under is difficult for the ordinary person to comprehend. To speak about Murray in such disparaging terms as " at least his golden tennis racket will fit in his mouth" is frankly absurd. He is a genuine champion. One of the select few in the UK.
