Archie-fox
Just returned from 3 days in the heart of exmoor.. What a great place to spend time, we stayed at the white horse in Exford, great little hotel, lots of good ales in the bar, great food, great staff.. spent a few hours in the rising sun in lynton drinking scrumpy and eating fresh crab..even struck lucky with the weather, anyone who lives that way is very lucky, we didn't want to get in the car and drive home..would recommend anyone to visit this area!!! ph5172
You need to read the books by Hope Bourne for a real insight into Exmoor by a woman who never even left (aside from a few days if i recall) Edited July 2, 2017 by ph5172

JDog
You should try going down there when hunting is in full swing.
Archie-fox
You should try going down there when hunting is in full swing. The hotel we stayed in had its own horses and local stag/fox hounds it had been voted the best sporting hotel in the uk, we did see some red deer on the hill going to parracomb but they were a fair way off... tonker
We have a Static just outside Barbrook above Lynton. Great bolt hole, trouble is you have to make the effort to do something as it's so peaceful and quiet I spend a lot of time sleeping and drinking beer. I keep telling the Mrs we've got years to explore.

islandgun
Lived and worked on a farm near Dulverton and contract shearing around Exmoor, fantastic place used to eat at the farms with the farmers laying on spreads for our late dinner that I have never seen the like of again.. timmytree
West Somerset and North Devon are full of hidden gems that many tourists miss because they shoot past on the M5 or A303 and don't stop to explore. I live fairly close so Exmoor is an easy hours drive for a day out, we've had two weekends in Lynmouth this year at a little place called the Bonnicott, a beautiful old rectory, fantastic food and great hosts. We're going camping at Bridgetown in a few weeks, lovely quiet site, river on one side and a millstream on the other. Lovely pub called the Badgers Holt. Every evening will see us at Dunkery Beacon for a walk with the binos, lunchtime picnics at Lanacre bridge and hopefully a few hours trying to tempt a wild brownie from the river! Oh, and as a Somerset man I have to put in a good word for the Quantocks and the West Somerset Steam Railway, the Levels, the Mendips. You need a month down here!!
