steve_b_wales
My daughter in law has just has a small wall re-plastered and wants in painted. Once it's dried out, what's best to seal it before painting? I think someone mentioned wallpaper paste, but not sure.
bruno22rf
I just use Emulsion paint mixed 50/50 with water.
muncher
I was told by plasters to use a paint that lets it breath for some considerable time or it will bubble up.

Rst1990
You can buy fresh plaster paint, or just mix 50/50 Matt emulsion/water

vampire
It doesnt have to be 50/50,buy a cheap white matt emulsion and dilute with 10% water, idea is it penetrates into plaster,so if you can see through it without a layer built up then its job done.Always used to do 50/50 but its way to thin and makes a mess of everything. Alternative methods are,buy bare plaster sealer or 5/1 pva. You would be surprised how many don't bother with a mist coat first. Wallpaper paste
stephensedgwick
most contract emulsion is suitable for new plaster

Wallpaper paste I did just this, and the first coat penetrated well into the plaster. I'm going to leave it a few days before applying a 'proper' coat. steve_b_wales
After applying the first 'mist' coat (10% added water) I did the top coat yesterday, and it looked and dried out good. Thanks for the tips and suggestions.

cragman
Plasterer starts at our place tomorrow....should be done in a week. Then I'm away for ten days so lots of time to dry out 😄 Joiners in after the plasterer to fit new skirting, doors and frames and build me a cupboard. Sparky next Friday for new sockets. Hopefully ready to decorate when I get back then I'll need another holiday
