Sussex gardener
I was talking with a good friend earlier today, and he is looking to take his first foray into cenerfire rifle ownership, purely for fox control and perhaps the odd rabbit. I assumed that he would go down the. 222/.223/22-250 route, but he said that he was dead set on a .204 ruger. This is a calibre I know nothing about, although a quick Google search gave a lot of positive feedback on the calibre. Has anyone here got experience with one and are there any down sides, such as prohibitive ammo costs (he will only use factory ammo) or restrictions on range use etc.? Thanks for any feedback

Just haven't got around to sorting out what I've got to replace it. Don't get me wrong, .22 cf is a replacement, the .17's too, I just miss something about the .20 Edited October 15, 2017 by kyska
washerboy
Will he be granted it ? My friend could only have a 22-250 as his first fox gun

Whitebridges
Superb. Tikka T3 Hornady superformance v-max 32g straight out of the box . Kills everything I’ve pointed it at. Flat shooting. I do not shoot deer.
Whitebridges
What are costs like for bullets? Last lot of Hornady 32g superformance were about £22 a box.

steve_b_wales
I have a Howa 1500 Varmint in .204. Very flat shooting and accurate. Sellior & Bellot supply ammunition and last off, it was around £17 / 20. I reload for mine which reduces the cost quite a bit.

Dekers
Will he be granted it ? My friend could only have a 22-250 as his first fox gun WHY ? Unless there were some special circumstances that is daft! Quick look at the Home Office guide will show that!

Gerry78
If hes just using it for foxes then 204 ok my mate uses one and likes it But if you wanted to go for deer say in scotland as here in N IREALAND WE cant shoot deer with anything less than 243 222/223/22;250 would be better option re ammo rifle choice etc
