la bala
My daughter purchased a piece of land a couple of years ago. On one side of the field this stuff has started to grow like mad, at the moment its about 5 feet tall. I am no botanist so looking for help in identifying. To be honest at the rate its growing i dont like it, it appears to be self seeding aswell. Over to the PW masses.

islandgun
Alder, fixes Nitrogen from the atmosphere and improves soil, coppices easily so if you cut it down in winter it will send out many more shoots 4 minutes ago, ditchman said: if only JDog was still with us .. Dasher
Alder. Don't bother cutting it unless your going to stump treat the cut stems as it just multiplies the number of stems next year!! Stump treat with glysophate (Round Up) mixed with 4 parts of water, you will see within minutes the stump turn yellowish instead of orange once treated if done within a minute or so of cutting. Cattle and ponies wont eat the stuff but a goat might!! Edited August 23, 2018 by Dasher

Walker570
Yep, takes a bit of killin'. To be honest anything like that I mix my Glypho a bit stronger and apply with a soft brush ...soft as possible then it doesn't flick stuff everywhere. Untreated it will spread at speed. Dropped a roe in an alder thicket in Sweden and it was a nightmare to find and drag out. Edited August 23, 2018 by Walker570

I only asked as we have a lot in our shoots, but always in the dampest parts and along the stream banks.
