There was an interesting discussion on radio 4 recently regarding it and all the evidence is to the contrary. Most pregnancies are planned and not many plan to have a baby in times of uncertainty, financial instability and crisis. Many unplanned pregnancies are amongst the young, (teenagers) who aren't "catching up" in the numbers they usually do. They cited other notable issues such as major city blackouts, the Twin Towers attacks etc where there were similar claims of baby booms but non of them were true.
