kids education suffering media doom and gloom

There is a small amount of research that suggests children aren’t generally affected by covod19 and also suggest that they don’t seem to spread it in the way adults do. However, with all research, more needs to be done as it’s still a very new disease.
look at the executive summary of this

Sorry but at some point the teachers need to be told who pays their wages, get back and stop making up excuses....the science tell you it's safe so get on!!!.....

Or as I heard this morning .... oh but some are old, are over weight have diabetes  or are looking after others,,,,,right if you not "fit for purpose"...get rid....

Real world were all the same but teachers well their always just that "little bit better"!!!!!!......

Starting with the first paragraph; they have been working, some from home, others in hubs, others are supporting children at home or ensuring they get a hot meal everyday.

Para 2; not fit to teach is different to having an underlying condition but please don't let that stop your bile.

Para 3; I suggest you get counseling.

Finally, ask yourselves this; if it is safe to go back in June, why isn’t Eton returning until September?

I don’t get has Eton got to do with the debate. What’s your point?

perhaps they don’t see it worthwhile to start for only one month (they break up at beginning of July)?

Perhaps some of the private school teachers are as lazy as some of the state school ones?

Perhaps some of the teachers have the same concerns as you?

Because I’ve seen no vitriol aimed at teachers in private schools, just those in state schools.

My children go to a private school and I think they should go back ASAP and work through the summer holidays (all 9 weeks of it). They are also still charging me 80% of the fees but only delivering between 30% and 45% of the lessons.

How can you not get it?

I've no idea what the charges are for going to Eton, but I'm sure it'll be more than I earn a year, I've no gripe with that.

So top private school isn't opening but state schools are.

The parents won't need to return to work to get the economy going for a start (probably don't need to work at all maybe? And probably pay way more tax than the rest of us?), the parents can probably quite happily say let's wait and see what happens.

my neighbour is involved with school maintenance so i can tell you for a fact YOUR children’s desks are NOT being set out two metres apart so the government rule to keep YOU safe will not be applied to YOUR children someone care to explain why the government are ignoring their own rule?

Just because the desks haven’t been moved doesn’t mean they will sit together

your example of one school hopefully dose not represent all schools in the country

I do profusely apologise that the poor standard of my english education does not meet with your approval.....

But this I stick by,,,

Why do teachers think they are different from everyone else,,get on with it or go sick or whatever your contract allows you to do,if government (your employer) says your safe to work,, go to work ,, there already are many teachers working in hubs,,the police hospital supermarket factory staff are all working, but no for some reason teachers are a law unto themselves!!...

I believe the proposal from the Government is that years 1 and 6 will go back first. Eton starts at year 9 and have no idea what the government plans are for those years.  Eton will probably break for summer on the 4h of July. So I would imagine that they are making the decision that it isn’t worthwhile opening for a short while between being given the OK to start for the years they teach and summer break starting.

personally I think all schools, state and private, should aim to get back ASAP and look to fill in for the missed teaching over the summer.

they have been moved that’s the point the two metre rule won’t work in either of them fortunately my grandson goes to another school and he’s staying home until we deem it safe

You wouldn't keep kids 2 mtrs apart anyway, you would spend the entire day just doing that, the plan in some schools is small groups who stay together throughout the day, so a kind of isolation.

I think it’s the social bubble plan

hard to keep kid’s apart I agree although there parents have had 7 weeks to try to get the message across

as has been said we can’t go back to normal

needs to be a few plans for a way forward into the future

sadly for some unless they can get the kids into school or child care they will not be able to go to work

so there option is kid’s at home and starve and be evicted from there home

or risk them going back to school

That's the jist of it, but kids want to play and need to play.

Our kids have been great, but once they are with their friends they will want to interact.

Very hard and difficult for you as a parent

are you comfortable with the social bubble type of schooling plan

or would something work better in your opinion?

trying to find a solution here no good sitting about being critical

thinking the people who are affected will come up with the best possible solution

it’ll be hard work for some with the implementation of the new plans I’m sure and aware of that

anyone who has children know it’s impossible to keep two of them apart let alone a group living with the guilt of your child infecting  your parents IF they survive is worth at least waiting another month to return

Why another month? What criteria are you using to say that in one months time things will be better than they are today?

This is the question I’d like the answer to. Everyone has the right to withhold their labour should they choose but (as I understand it) most teachers are still working. So it comes down to when the individual thinks it’s safe to enter the school.

What criteria are people going to use? No new cases for a certain number of days? Cat 4 protection for teachers? And pupils? If the world has to be on hold until there are zero new cases then we need to reorganise pretty quickly else the old world will fall to bits.

Also, I am uncomfortable with the prevailing idea that furlough is ok for everyone. But the furloughed expect power, water, food, transport and refuse collection. Some are more furloughed than others.

It’s all well and good saying that “teachers are still working” but according to the chair of the Education  Committee, Robert Halfon MP (who imo is a great MP) 90% of vulnerable children are not receiving education at the moment and 50% of children had not received any communication from their teachers as at early April. If this is the case then clearly not all teachers are working.

The hubs have minimal numbers of children and staff, no PPE, no Perspex screens etc that other workplaces have.

Imagine if one teacher gets C19, the whole class will have to self isolate for 7 days, their parents and siblings for 14 days...

You're not Gavin Williamson are you?

Your like a dog with a bone,,,

My kids are at a hub I know exactly what they are getting not getting,,I know the risks I know the pitfalls,I also have lost a family member to covid so perhaps know more than my "lack of education " has been suggested......

Heres the thing, teachers were told by their employer to go home close school and provide materials to keep education going,,,,they duly obliged,,took their employers instruction.....

Now that same employer says it is safe to resume in some form....but no...the employees now know better and object to going back....

You cant have it both ways!!...

Every day your alive your at risk from something, covid is no different!....no workplace/home/life can involve 0% risk!
