ditchman
Had another look at the finish of the cherub.............im just getting too anal............its not perfect so i stripped it off again the original size i have was too think....so i thinned it down a fair bit...the results were much better....but being a pva/polymer acrylic it dosnt truly go off and hard....so when it comes to buffing it up there is still a bit of movement underneath...which results in a poor finish......... so anyway i have ordered up some shellac flakes and i will mix it with methyalated spirits and use that ........as it goes glass hard very quickly. did a quick test with some button polish i have which contains shellac...and that works supremly well... its all stop start on this post

ditchman
making slow progress..........applying leaf to intricate mouldings now......going thro a sucession of 4 brushes softest first ending with the harder one when the size has almost stabilized..find it easier to do a bit at a time..... apply thinned size leave for 20 mins apply (place) leaf gently push into place with softest brush leave 1/2 hour use diffent brush to flattern down leave for 1/2 hour use another brush to pick out the shape and detail use another brush to flattern and polish and remove small excess this will be polished again in a couple of days when the size is stable and hard
TIGHTCHOKE
Lovely! Interesting that you are using softest brush and getting progressively firmer. I notice you are working on an old pairs of Fat Sarah's jeans. Edited July 24, 2020 by TIGHTCHOKE

Walker570
Many moons ago, over 70yrs to be precise, I did a small amount of gold leaf work on some scultures we hwere doing in 6th Form Art. Believe me very small amount and I would not want to be attempting what you are doing and doing well I might add. The finished article will be a glory to see I am sure. Look forwrd to it.
