PPP
Has anyone on here successfully (to edible fruit growing stage) managed to grow avocados from the pit?
Diver One
Nope i could get the seed/pit to germinate. Plant grew to,about 12/14" then topped itself. I then found out that there is one 'breed' that won't work...possibly HAAS. And that the best fruit comes. From grafted plants
ClemFandango
http://www.fruitexpert.co.uk/growingavocados.html Says here they take up to 10 years to bear fruit. Patience. And they need hand pollinating apparently.

KFC
Avacado on Bacon sarnie sprinkled with black pepper, yummy yum yum. Just had Avacado on toast with scrambled egg this morning, yummy yum yum. I have grown Acacado's by putting a cocktail stick through the stone and lodging it in the top of a glass with the blunt end of the stone in water. But again, 12" -18" is all I could manage. That is commendable!
