Sidelever
An aging relative gave me this car part when clearing our his even older shed. Made of brass or bronze, very heavy,9cm wide with a hefty central thread on the underside. I would love to know the purpose(some say hubcap others radiator cap) and it’s age. Clearly quite old,but ‘net’searches have come up blank. Many thanks Sidelever
wisdom
Cant see it being a radiator cap. Wonder what the small bolt on the underside is for? Would not have thought it's a hub cap due to that. Interesting though.

walshie
I'd be thinking more along the lines of a cap for the centre of the steering wheel or even a tank badge for a motorbike.
Sidelever
If it helps the cap weighs just over 300 grams or 10oz in old money!
Modafinale
Peugeot made motor bikes , cycles and lots of other things could even be as obscure as off a Peugeot steam car
Centrepin
Having read the above comment about steam, I wonder if its a pressure relief valve, would need a rubber washer on and slowly unscrew to release pressure. Many years ago buses used to have a screw valve on the radiator cap to allow slow release of pressure before removing. I used to see this a lot when buses were overheating due to the steep hills in Sheffield. The rad caps and valves where always brightly polished brass. So maybe its something along those lines. Not a very clear picture I know, but something along the lines of what's on the rad of the bus below? hodge911
Some of the old french cars hub discs were just that a disc with a hole in centre held on by a screw / bolt / or what you have as the domed wheel had a threaded hole in centre https://images.app.goo.gl/MujhmuV8zQUMvjMa6
Sidelever
Finally the answer... Firstly thanks for all those that replied. The item is a radiator cap embellishment from the 1920-1930 era. By undoing the two smaller bolts the Peugeot badge can be removed and a motif similar to the leaping pussy and a Jaguar or Spirit of Ecstasy of RR could be fitted. The K B on the Peugeot badge could a reference to a UK dealer back in the day. So there you have it. Thanks again S/L
