clumber
Can anyone recommend a set of general purpose wood chisels that aren't made in China and don't cost a kings ransom. Going to be doing a few projects over the winter and as one who works with metal wood is a little alien to me. Clumber.

Old Boggy
Marples are what I`ve used over the years and cost me £11.00 new. Cannot remember how long ago that was though. My carpentry skills leave a lot to be desired but they`ve done me well. And before anyone says it, yes, I know, they could do with a really good clean. moondoggy
Ashley Iles. Hand made in Lincolnshire. I bought a selection of four chisels and they are superbly made. There are some good videos showing them being made.
team tractor
I use Stanley but I’ve had them over 20 years now . My lads use marples like above. I can’t fault them . I hollow grind all my chisels and they’re sharper than a sharp thing in sharp ville . to many sharpen wrong . hollow grind Stone remove burr ( so important) on timber then leather strop

Graham M
Bought my Marples chisels back in 1966 when I started as an apprentice chippy. Still have then to this day although they are a lot shorter than they once were. Edited October 19, 2021 by Graham M

clumber
Managed to pick up a set of Footprint and a set of Stanley for under £40 the lot, off ebay. Both sets in good condition with only one chisel that needs a good sharpening but I'll do the lot. For what I want them for I'm very happy. Thanks for the replies,👍
