Apparently the science says that if you get any of the strains floating about right now, you do get natural immunity to the others. Mind you, my eldest is double vaxed and has had it twice so who knows which way is up? Science aside, it really makes me laugh that he thought that he could rock up to the most locked down country on the planet, unvaxed and do as he pleased or fight and win against the Australian government. What a pantomime.

No, maybe just sheer arrogance?

This is juicy.

The Judge applied the rules regarding notice periods to cancel visas (and which the government had not met) and found against the Australian Government.

Boy do they look daft and boy are they not going to like any of this.

I’ve no idea what’s going to happen next 😆

They still may, the final decision is up to the federal government. I believe it was the federal government that instigated this.

It appears that the judge has tried to steer the government away from taking it any further .

Possibly, but this is Australia we are talking about. I can see the federal government upholding their original decision.

I hope that the government do appeal,  and win.  I know little of tennis , or djokovic , but I found his actions arrogant and disrespectful to the Australian people and government.

Why? He applied for a visa from The state of Victoria with backing from Tennis Australia. This was approved on the basis of prior infection and before travel.

When it was announced that he was coming people got uppity. Secretary of State weighed in and said it was federal government who had the ultimate say and that prior infection applied only to Australians, not incoming foreigners anyway. The PM weighed in (just coincidence that it’s election year obviously) and said they would challenge it.

meanwhile ND has arrived at the border to find his visa cancelled. Which by the judges determination did not happen in time to be legal.

im not a ND fan and some of his behaviour has been shambolic in the past, but in this occasion the shambolic ones are the OZ government.

My very simplistic understanding of things so far( and I'm more than happy to be proven wrong).

If he'd done everything as he should , he would have been welcomed in . He didn't do everything as he should , and he wasn't.

He's only being allowed in now , as the government made a mistake , and He's used money and influence to exploit that mistake.

From his stand point he did though. He applied for a visa and it was granted and it wasn’t granted based on false information. Whilst any entry is subject to checks at the border, his decision to travel was pretty reasonable.

if Victoria issued a visa they shouldn’t have it could have been cancelled in the time scales they are allowed. It wasn’t. That’s a screw up by Australia, not ND

He’s hardly exploited anything here, he’s just challenged the Austrian governments decision to cancel his visa. Which apparently after about an hour in front of a judge they should t have done. You or I could do exactly the same, and given the speed of the court decision it probably didn’t cost a huge amount either.

I must confess , that in my 53 years on this planet , this is the very first time that anything interesting happened in tennis.

Again I'm happy to be proven wrong . My understanding is that it was the timescale of the cancellation of the visa that was wrong , not the cancellation.

Any ordinary guy off the street , wouldn't be able to throw their legal team into a fight with the Australian government,  he very much appears to be using fame and money , to push his way past the rules put in place by the Australian government.  Most ordinary Australian citizens must find that very hard to swallow.

I'm not much on legal matters , but I know that the hour in front of the judge , will only be the tip of the,  very large , and very costly, legal iceberg .

I'm looking forward to standing on my front step at 8 o'clock on Thursday night and clapping the Australian government,  while everyone in Bristol is taking the knee for  tennis players.😁.

In all honesty , it's not something that I'm getting very excited over .

part of the problem is different rules for different states........and that is what the govt has to deal with

You'd have thought that Djokovic would have someone taking care of that end of things (I know that part of the problem was ozgov), and that anything that could possibly go wrong , would be picked up before it happened.  I'm assuming that all of the other tennis players entered Australia with no issues?.

it seems that australia is like a collection of countries within a country....i have friends who work and live there and some of the stories i get back are seriously weird........unfathomable and disjointed politicle system

A perfect example of that craziness is the UK.

Mind you , anything in any way connected to covid is a bit barmy.

It is now being claimed that he entered false information on his entry form.  He has (apparently) stated that he has not travelled in the 14 days prior to entering Australia (which he did on the 5th January) - but has been photographed in both Serbia and Spain in that period.  In fact his flight to Australia was from Spain, but he was in Serbia Belgrade for Christmas (25th) where he was also photographed.

From that he must have travelled from Belgrade to Spain during the 14 day travel reporting window.
