I've also bought a remote bluetooth box you can buy for them, this allows me to connect to any bluetooth device like a computer/TV.  They already seamlessly connect to my iPhone which is great for answering calls etc.

The only gripe I'd have is the weekly change of batteries, I wish they'd do a rechargeable version.

The NHS are about to change my Phonac aids (with large gauge tubes) to aids with Bluetooth and rechargeable batteries.
I’m interested in the Bluetooth box. Could you provide details / link please? Thanks.

That’s interesting. Maybe I should go back to the NHS to see what they can now offer. Might save me a few bob and nothing to lose by trying.

Thanks for posting Bobba.

Hi Walker

I would not recommend using anything that inserts into the canal, it is not straight and you have no way of seeing and navigating the structures in there. You risk damaging the outer canal, the drum and middle ear which are very, very delicate and also increasing the risk of infection, hearing loss and balance issues.

For some, using those high street jobs is the starting point for chronic auditory complications and the long road of ENT misery, see it all too often. Take it from someone who looks in ears on a very frequent basis.

Get them looked at before commencing any 'skewering therapy'.

Hope you get sorted.

I was told the ONLY thing to stick down my ear was my elbow   !   Anything else.....forget it .

Hello, I have to use sub titles so your not alone OB, have about 30 percent loss in left ear and 10 percent in right , just cannot get on with my NHS aids, so I just put up with not using and I don't socialise much or go anywhere like the cinema or show, my 2 son's understand if I ask to repeat something, as a side note I always had my ears checked about every 2 years at the surgery and maybe a syringe but they stopped doing this in the COVID period and now not doing on the NHS or this surgery? Sorry have go private  for this treatment now , 🤔 there are different types of NHS hearing aids so check out against yours, best wishes

Contact your local Council and ask for a loop system to be installed on your TV. It comes as part of a fire alarm package but it is supplied and fitted FREE  !  It is also tested annually and again that is free.

That reminds me of Captain Corelli’a Mandolin (book, not the film) where the guy complained of an aching ear. The doctor removed a pea, the pain disappeared and he could hear perfectly. He was back next day to have it put back in as his wife’s nagging was driving him mad. At least when driving, I can turn my left hearing aid off which stops nagging from the passenger seat👍 😂

Did have a fish hook in my ear once, boat partner that was a rubbish caster  ! I did ask if he had another of the same fly, for my other ear  !

It stayed in my ear until I got home and a Doctor friend got it out  🙄

Selective hearing loss then O.B!

Mrs 7days says I appear to suffer the very same affliction. Dependant on what the communication refers to of course. 😁

It reminds me of the time my mate went A+E with a three inch salmon fly hooked in the middle of his forehead.  The receptionist asked him what was wrong , he replied , I've got a boil on my xxxx 😁.

🤣

In plain sight!

He sounds like a 'good catch'. Sorry Mel could not resist.

Like Westley and your friend, I myself have been 'snaffled' by a few fishing hooks in me time, mainly fly fishing on a windy loch. Ouch!

He had a habit of getting hooked 😁. I watched him pull out a size 8 barbed hook from his finger , it was buried down to the bend , and he pulled it out himself , with my pliers .   He was a real tough old lad , but he went a strange grey colour when he pulled that hook out .

I bet he did!

Bloomin heck Mel that would have smarted!

In my experience 'blokes' are ones who go to jelly first. I always get them on the bed before I start 'prodding and poking', some say "nah! I dont need that numbing injection or  the funny gas" after I have extolled the virtues. Within seconds they are as you allude, very ashen with their blood pressure in their boots. Better dealing with a vaso vagal attack on the bed than the floor, stops them from getting a bony or head injury from 'flaking out.'

I'd just like to confirm that I have never ever ever almost fainted at the sight of a needle..... honest 😁.

Oh that's brilliant, I think if my hearing aids were rechargeable they'd would be just about perfect.

The box I have is this one:

Oticon ConnectClip Bluetooth link and wireless microphone for Opn, Engage, More, Xceed & Siya | Connevans

I did get mine from Amazon for slightly cheaper than this, but they don't seem to have it anymore.

Cheers

  • 4 weeks later...

Bit of an update on this.

I finally decided upon getting new hearing aids from a company called ‘Regain Hearing’  which came highly recommended from a good pal and has received very good reviews and must admit that so far, it’s changed my life. The hearing aids are not cheap but are rechargeable and programmable via my phone. When I receive a phone call, I can hear this via the hearing aids not the phone if I so wish. There are various settings cutting out background noise and adjustments for volume, bass and treble etc. This is the programmable stuff I’ve found and used so far and I’m due to go back in a couple of weeks after trying them and for any adjustments and also to find out about further settings, oh and pay for them but only if I’m 100% satisfied. My trials in crowded situations and hard furnishings thus far have been most encouraging. I can now clearly understand all speech when with family and friends, which is something that has sadly been lacking up until now and I can now contribute to the conversations and not just sit there as previously not knowing what’s going on. It really is a life changer for me and I only wish that I’d done it sooner. The only complaint that I got was from the wife who couldn’t hear the TV as I had the volume set too low….. for her.

The above company, not only did the normal pressing of the button when subjected to the varying sounds etc, with headphones on, but also a speech test of loads of different sounding words to find out precisely which sounds needed to be enhanced. I was quite impressed by this as it’s something that no other audiologist has ever done.

One little setting I’ve found quite useful is, if I leave my phone on the table, say in a pub, a cafe or at home and go to the loo, I can hear what is being said at the table. So far, they haven’t spoken too derogatory of me whilst not there, but give it time once I start adding my two penny worth to the conversations, who knows, I might learn what they really think of me.🤣
