Medical records

My renewal is due in late Jan. I took my medical record request form to my doctors almost 2 weeks ago and paid the required fee. I expect to get an email from Lincs police when they receive the form from my doctors but haven’t received one yet. Should I chase my doctor or be patient for a while longer?

Requesting your medical mecords is free of charge, and your GP has one month, by law, to give them to you.

i took my forms to the doctor, and picked them up in 2 days, and sent them with the renewal forms,

You were lucky, my doctor had mine over 3 months. Luckily I got them to them well in advance, I was told by my FEO to get my renewal in early and they would process it early, It ended up going in just in time.

Lincs police state I can’t put renewal in until doctor has completed medical form?

The free and one month is if requesting a copy of your medical records under the General Data Protection Regulations GDPR and is irrelevant with regards to the medical history form the police require completed by the applicants GP.

Within GDPR both the fee and one month are not binding under extenuating circumstances a fee can be required and the one month can be extended.

Just ring your ring Doctors and chase them up and say you will collect them when done. Then you know you have them.

I did that and sent photos of them with my online renewal.

Come to think of it, I think the latest forms are sent straight to the Police. It's on the form, I believe.

Edit- it can be either

Your response should be sent to the local police firearms licensing department by secured NHS email, or sent by post. Alternatively, please contact me so that I can collect it. If the response is given to me to supply to the police they may contact you to confirm the details.

This.

If your GP has agreed to provide medical records, it isn't covered by the legislation where you make a Subject Access Request for your own records under the Date Protection Act - which gives them one month. As the records are computerised they can't claim the request is excessive and get another month.

There is also this -

Quote

When the medical information is being provided to the police by a doctor from a private company, the doctor must receive the applicant’s medical information direct from the GP practice and not via the applicant.

If you are using a third party company, like MedCert to do the report, the request for your medical records has to come from them, direct to your doctors surgery. You cannot get your records and send them over. It's to stop you editing your records before you send them.

I requested my medical records from my GP. I then sent them, together with the Pro Forma, to a GP that was recommended by BASC. After looking at my records, he then sent the Pro Forma to the Police and sent my records back to me.

Taken from the PDF medical report link….

How to respond

post. Alternatively, please contact me so that I can collect it. If the response is given to me to supply to the police
they may contact you to confirm the details.

So what instruction did you give your doctor, you collect them when ready or your doctor sends them direct to the police firearms licensing.

it’s just a game, with so many applicants and so many GPs not really engaging at all or just in doing it for the money then the process will not always be as the police dictate. You can bet that in some instances the GP will give the applicant the report to posts, or a printed copy of the medical history (not all is always on computes) to pass to a third party GP (as happened with a friend).

Remember the end goal for the Police is a report in the file that god for bid should the worst happens it covers the Chief Constables backside.

That quote was taken off the Kent GP proforma document. It wasn't on the one I had when I renewed, it has been added since.

Strange isn't it. I have never had a 'form' to complete and never failed to have my FAC and SGS renewed.

If I remember correctly in another thread about the same issue your renewal fell just before the new rules/forms came into force.

Well there has been discussion about medical records for donkey's yonks, never ever been asked for such.

No, because all you needed to do on the old form was tick a box that gave the police permission to contact your doctor should they wish to, the old system never required you to supply a medical report from your doctor.

So when did all this change then?

We seem to have been having this discussion for eons.

Think it came into force last year, November 2021, everyone now has to get their doctor to fill the medical proforma...like this one.. https://www.southyorks.police.uk/media/8094/firearms-form-201-medical-profroma.pdf
