Cranfield
I know a few members make their own sloe gin, I have been fortune enough to get my hands on some over the years. However, I am now looking for recommendations for "shop bought" sloe gin. There seems to be quite a few options out there, but can anyone vouch for something that tastes like the "real thing" ? bruno22rf
Lidl used to do one with a Stags head on the bottle but not seen it for a while, they do the Hortus Sloe Gin which is good but not cheap. I would buy a bottle and adjust the taste to my liking, most likely add sugar and a drip or 2 of Almond flavouring.

The hedgerows on my Perm is still full of them ,missed the blackberries as they had all the brambles and hedges cut but the sloes survived ,I often grab a couple to wake my taste buds up. harrycatcat1
I was looking at the sloes this morning (100 yds long length of bushes) and they all seemed very small compared to other years. Some years you could've mistaken them for damsons but this year not so. Edited November 14, 2022 by harrycatcat1
harrycatcat1
Just been to Aldi and thought folks might want to look at the Gins.
JohnfromUK
I liked to leave the sloes on the tree until there has been a frost, but (a) we haven't had a frost this year yet and (b) someone has pinched all the (reachable) sloes from my tree (which is on my private property)! In fact - I'm not too bothered because I have plenty in the cupboard leftover and probably wouldn't have made any this year, but the idea of leaving for a frost is likely to result in 'none left'. On 'boughten' varieties, one shoot I used to be involved with always used Hawkers. Not sure it is available now? I always pick before they are gone and provided the "frost" in the white appliance.😉
