Anyone else with this gun ? How is your trigger ?

Unfortunately there are lots of variations of this gun.

Mine was the supreme max, my son has it now. He tried a newer version in synthetic and it handled and fired like a completely different brand, outrageously poor. I'm not convinced all the internals are the same.

The Franchi Affinity will be a completely different gun in terms of quality, feel, handling and reliability. Saying that it is almost 3 x the price new so I would expect it to be 3 x the gun.

I switched from a Hatsan Escort to an ATA Venza last year. The Hatsan was ok and a good tool for a job but it was low quality and at times unreliable. When your using a gun on a marsh where you may only get a handful of opportunities each trip then having the second shot miss-feed randomly is unacceptable.

In comparison the ATA is on another level despite being in the same price bracket. It handles really well, has a clean and crisp trigger break and so far has been 100% reliable.

Well I was very disappointed as the trigger is so heavy its impossible to shoot with it.

No issues with mine, which is a 'second generation'*

It's a shotgun not a match rifle, the trigger should be fairly straight pull, but certainly not heavy.

*I'm still waiting for an actual expert to take time out of their day to do a 'how to identify which Hatsan Escort type you have" thread.  Sadly...I doubt it'll happen 😂

Gun returned today for a full refund.

Now thinking of Franchi Affinity....anyone any comments ?

Depends what you want to spend.  Plenty of decent secondhand semis out there, but if you want new, you'll find there's a helluva price jump from Hatsan/Breda territory to Beretta/Browning/Benelli.  The Franchi is about the only thing in the middle, expect possibly the above mentioned ATA.  Not tried either I'm afraid.

The answer correct answer is of course, "What fits you" - yes even a semi should fit or you won't hit anything.  Normally there are shim kits included, and additional shims can be purchased.  Frankly if I was buying new I'd expect the gun shop to spend some time with the you to get your mount spot on.

Be aware that the Franchi is an inertia action, whereas most semis are gas-driven.  There are pros and cons to each, but I think the consensus is the inertia is superior in most applications.  Some will tell you the Franchi has the same internals as a much higher-priced Benelli inertia action, though an RFD I asked denied this.

Personally, I bought a second hand Benelli Montefeltro and it's the gun I shoot best with, albeit not HP Steel proofed (which is why it was cheap).  Definitely a step up from my Hatsan in terms of pointability, but that 'cancelled' plenty of flights too.

Thanks for your comments.

The only way to describe the trigger was , you needed to hit it with a Hammer to fire , absolutely awful.

I dry fired the Franchi and a Browning and they were leagues apart.

I bought a new Hatsan Escort today and took it out tonight to familiarise myself with it.

Well I was very disappointed as the trigger is so heavy its impossible to shoot with it.

So it's back to the gun shop tomorrow.

I have had several Hatsan Escorts and worked on many others, for the price I have never felt the trigger was anything other than workmanlike.

I must have had a faulty one as it was like trying to pull the trigger with the safety on.

Anyway will not have another ...the old saying you get what you pay for springs to mind.

Oh I quite agree, for the price they are very good.

I disagree, they are cheap, but more than adequate as a hide gun.

Over the years I have shot an awful lot of Corvids and Wood Pigeons with mine.

So do I. I have a FAC 8 shot version and it's brilliant. Used mainly for crop protection (corvids/pigeons) many 1000's of cartridges have been put through it with no issues.

I got a Hatsan mk1, I bought it on a whim and never looked back.

Gun fit it's all wrong, but some how it works and I have never shot better with any other gun. I bought it as a back up but it's my main gun now. I think it's been over a year since I have shoot my over and under.

The stock is way to short end up with a black eye or a bruised nose most days.

Only time it plays up is when it's not cleaned well. Or I have not given it a good serving of gun grease.

They are a marmite gun you either love or hate them I think...but after my bad experience not for me.

Anyway back out last night for a few hours with my old trusty sxs ...what a pleasure shooting it after the other disastrous day with the Hatsan.

Nice and light and pointable, only shot 11 woodies and 4 crows but what an enjoyable session as the birds were mostly taken at around 40 - 50 yds.

Not a big bag but very enjoyable.

I have an ATA venza also .I really like it .

It's gas operated  but some how it never seems to get dirty .something to do with the variable gas piston system which allows it so shoot a wider range of cartridges  .

I have the synthetic  wood stock version which looks good and is still practical .never a miss feed or jam . Recommended  .

I love my Hatsan put 1000's of carts through it and only had one small issue with it, If I changed it for anything it would be a Franchi.

My berretta has not seen daylight for years.  :good:

The Franchi I looked at was nice , very pointable , lighter and the trigger was sweet😁
