I would actually be very interested in oowee’s boat and wish he would tell us more about it and his travels with it.

I would but too embarrassed to mention it now 😳

I don't see a problem with it, different views make life interesting and to be honest, left wing views are always going to be like a unicorn on a shooting forum.

While I personally don't believe socialisum works well in the 'real' world, I understand why people try to achieve it as it's based on the principle of a world where everyone works to achieve a better fairer society and who wouldn't want that? It's just unfortunate (in my opinion) that it doesn't take into account the fact there are many selfish, lazy people who will put their own wants ahead of what's right, stopping that system from working effectively.

Sterling silver more like , its the word sterling the EU dont like , so they put extra tax on it

Have you tried Temu or Aliexpress, they seem to be able to ship halfway round the word for nothing , so its not a UK problem, its an EU problem !

Our remoaner friend wont want to hear that. Doesnt suit his narrative see

I want some catches for my boat. The quote is £20 each (pre Brexit price) but the price increases to £85 (customs, vat and postage) to send them to the UK now.

If I get them posted to Guernsey I can go and collect them VAT and Tax free. I am hoping to go there later this month.

Is this £85 per catch?

Without breaking it down how are we to know who's taking the mick.

So far you haven't provided any proof of your claims or details of the catches. The vat would be £4 on £20 wouldn't it? How much do HMRC want? How much is the postage, £40?

Like the tender btw, does it do for water sking?

No idea how they got the figures. It was a cut and paste from the e mail. As I understood it the first one is £85 then each one after (upto 5 iis an additional £20. I lost interest when I saw the price and it's the wrong catch. 😁

Here is the rest

I apologise for the delay in coming back to you regarding the catches for the Beneteau 40. Please see a photo attached and confirm if these are what you are looking for.

The cost of the catches is £20 including VAT but the transit, VAT and customs increases this to £85.  The cost is an additional £20 for each catch purchased and so long as no more than 5 the other charges remain the same.

Perhaps consider buying a few to make the cost of importing and getting them to you less painful.

Please confirm back to me if you would like any and I will send through an appropriate invoice and put the order through.

With best wishes.

So is that meaning that they are £20 but you would pay 65£ in transport costs. Or is it saying each one is £85. Really depends how you read it.

The way I read it they're too bleeding expensive, so get them from someone else who isn't extracting the urine, either way it's nothing to do with brexit , and everything to do with a greedy vendor.

Pre brexit they would have been in the post. No tax, no processing, just postage. No doubt still extortionate 🤣

Humour me Grant, if you ordered 1 item at £20 , and for the sake of argument the postage was £5, is the tax/vat/duty 300% ?

Or is it more like tax at 25 % , and the vendor is quoting £60 postage ?🤑

Handling and paperwork. Plus lots of wrapping paper and a box. Price remains the same for the next 4. I bought a German switch system. System was just 70 euro. It cost me nearly double with handling fees.

Im not being picky, but you kind of insinuated that this was extra taxes because of Brexit ?
Im not saying there isnt extra charges, the VAT difference for one, but to grossly inflate the charges due to handling is, as I said a greedy vendor extracting the urine.

Have a look at this, as this is more common than you think, but all I can say is, Ive never had any issue ordering from the EU lately.

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/buying-online-from-europe-post-brexit/#:~:text=If you order online from,no customs duty to pay.

The main point is the £135 threshold for extra charges, even then , a 300% increase is ridiculous.

Consignment value of order costs £135 or less? You shouldn't face ANY extra fees

If you order online from the EU and the consignment value – the total order (minus delivery charges and taxes) – costs £135 or less, you shouldn't have to pay anything extra. VAT will be included in the price you're shown when you pay online – as it was prior to Brexit – and there's no customs duty to pay. As a result, you shouldn't face courier handling fees either.

I guess it's why so many small businesses have stopped trying to sell to Europe. Brexit makes the whole process untenable.

No , the EU commission tries very hard to make the whole process untenable.
You know very well they are a self confessed protectionist trading bloc, those same laws that protect them from cheaper imports, also hinder them exporting out.

EU business's are also suffering greatly from trade barriers that have been set up to counter this, while countries outside the EU are looking at other sources for EU goods and materials, and other markets for their own goods.
You have encountered a classic example of how the EU hobbles itself in its desire to be isolated.

Most people would simply look to China, Turkey or India for those catches, obtained them far cheaper, and with no import or 'handling' BS .

That's why we had a union. Its stops the greedy capitalist business owner in their tracks. Allows free and unfettered trade.
