fordy1967
Hello, I’m in need of a bit of help and advice please. 99% will be shooting clays, I have an old Parker Hale 28" O/U at the moment, but want to trade up and treat myself to a better shotgun. I’ve been offered a Browning 525 28" Hunter at a good price, and been looking at 525’s but not the 28" hunter version. Do you think that this 525 28" Hunter will be the best option, or should I look at a 30" non-Hunter model? The Hunter model is a long drive away, otherwise I’d go and try/see it. I don’t want to be selling it in a couple of months/years, want something to have for a longer period, cheers.
steve_b_wales
The model 'Hunter' says it all really. It can be used for target shooting but you would be better looking for a Sporter/Trap gun. Whatever you choose, try and make sure it fits you correctly. A good RFD/Gunsmith can help you out with this.

London Best
A better gun won’t make you a better shot. Learn to shoot the one you have first and in a couple of years you will be in a better position to make an informed choice.
TIGHTCHOKE
Far more important that a "new" gun fits you.

Gordon R
Browning and Miroku are basically the same gun, but Miroku are better value for money.

This. 👆 Buy a multi choke sporter if English Sporting type shooting is to be your priority, or a trap gun if DTL type disciplines is your choice. There are oodles and oodles of good quality sh Mirokus out there to suit all folks and their pockets.

fordy1967
Thanks everyone, I’ll start searching for a 525 or a Miroku multi choke
Westley
A 30" Sporter would be a good choice. It can be also be used for occasional game shooting. A 28" game gun will shoot game well. It can also be used for occasional clay shooting.
Fellside
I would say the above comments are entirely valid re 30” sporter - if mostly clay shooting. Can also recommend Miroku in terms of quality. Extremely well made for the money. They have made various models with different stock dimensions, so see what fits best. At the end of the day, if it doesn’t fit you’ll be wasting cartridges. BTW sporters make excellent hide guns….. if that’s relevant for you (?).
Welshpestcontroller
Any Browning 525 / Miroku MK70 will most likely outlast its owner, their only achilies heel being slightly fragile firing pins, easily replaced. I’ve owned a few , still own a MK70, and 28” barrels are a good all round choice. You wear a Browning in, never out and they are a far better option than anything Turkish.
