manthing
In my local faceache group someone posted a pic of a couple of these blighters in their garden and was rewarded with the usual ohhs and arrs and aren't they pretty. All I did was point out that like grey squirrels they are an invasive alien species that bring nothing but harm to the local native fauna. Got dogs abuse for that comment and one bloke stated with all the authority he could muster that if they became a problem then someone like the RSPB would organise a controlled and humane cull. I think he had the wind knocked out when I informed him that a government body and not a waste of money charity had already deemed them a problem and put them on the general licence. I then informed the nice chap that any that came my way would be dealt with appropriately, don't think he liked that. I hadn't realised they were this far up the country yet, Stafford north side, not that far from me and a 100 acre Wood that's between land I shoot and Stafford. CaptC
Shouldn't that read "Ring the neck of parakeets?" How does the RSPB "humane cull?" Unfortunately as we all know, the fluffy bunny brigade cannot be convinced that either the grey squirrel of parakeet are invasive species. This morning I counted 17 squirrel dreys within a quarter of a mile on a National Trust estate who would no doubt relish the arrival of parakeets in order to boost visitor numbers
manthing
Not sure why this was moved when it's about birds on the GL, but there you go. @TIGHTCHOKE I'll let you know if and when matey. 👍🏻
TIGHTCHOKE
I have seen the bloody things in Richmond Park and did see one in peterborough a couple of years ago. Nothing since, when they do spread I strongly suspect they will be added to a GL.

Dougy
Saw one on a perm of mine, it was the call that gave it away, if i had had a safe shot with the 22lr it would be silenced but not seen it for months now hopefully a pheasant shoot has bagged it. When I saw the post the other day about the parakeets in the meadow I was so hoping to get one in our garden that backs on to the river...we put more seed out and even ordered a new bird table (that isn't up yet) and to my surprise a message form my neighbour with a picture...I rushed down stairs to find this beauty enjoying breakfast This is just one of the posts
amateur Posted Monday at 23:01 Report Share Posted Monday at 23:01 They are greedy blighters and will happily pose on a feeder long enough for you to get a decent shot.
