Bear68
I've just seen a Winchester 5500 28" multi choke for sale locally, which might fit the bill for walked-up and small driven days. Sadly not the sort of things most buy nowadays unless an enthusiast or such. This. +1. The same with Webley 700 vs AYA No4 guns. IMHO the No4 is anyway the better gun save the cosmetics of cyanide case colouring and its engraving. But chopper lump barrels and a replaceable and available cross pin off the shelf (as with other parts) from ASI.

islandgun
With the help of this thread I have just puchased one of these 101's at a very reasonable price [yet to collect] F.C. 30" with 3 inch chambers 4 ton. serial number begins with K412. a quick google suggest the Magnum Field which was introduced in 1966 . I want to use it for infrequent clay missing jaunts, any thoughts date wise ? Edited December 27, 2024 by islandgun

Even Winchesters official dates don’t include 101’s as they were made in Japan. 🤷♂️
martinj
I have got a Winchester Winchoke 101 XTR Sporter 28" that was Made in Japan (stamped on the barrel) which I bought in 1985 from a gun shop near Twickenham Confusingly it also has Winchoke T.M East Alton IL. USA stamped on the barrels When I needed a new firing pin I was told that all Winchester spares had been bought by an American company, I did locate one in America, the price was around $45 but export taxes made having one made and fitted in the UK a cheaper option. He used to buy and sell a lot of 5500/6500 as they were unusual over there being European spec
