I worked at Brum Airport and used carpark 1, if i was to pay per day it would be £59 (if i remember) 1 week just over £100.

Have to say the lifts were quite clean and had a nice smell, not sure about the stairwells, i had to park on the 6th floor and above and far too many steps.

Looking at the footprint of the multi story against building the same capacity carpark on the flat, it saves allot of space so i understand the reason to build multistory.

Councils also make it plain they don't want you to park anyway?

I've never quite understood why councils think it's good business to mug people with parking charges when they're coming in to town spend money.

Instead of using the car as normal, wifey and I took the bus into Gloucester yesterday because we would be spending a few hours there and having a decent lunch with wine etc. We have bus passes so that was free but, as of today, thanks to our 3rd world roads and 30 year old busses, my back's a bit stiff but I think my kidneys are going to be okay. Meanwhile, the once thriving Gloucester city centre is in a very sorry state. scruffy, run down, dirty almost all the good shops are gone and every other shop still open  seems to be a charity shop.

And still they expect me to pay £10 or thereabouts for a 5 hour stay. No thanks!

Although I live not far away, I have only been into Gloucester once in the last 10 years or so - and that was a 'necessary' visit to the Cathedral for a memorial service for a friends family.  Gloucester - like most of these places now is scruffy, dirty, difficult to navigate, difficult to park and depressing.

I accept that people like me shopping now 'on-line' are responsible in part, but I will do what I find least inconvenient.

The only high street I can think of in Gloucestershire that is functioning reasonably well and hasn't become a scruffy, run down dump is Cirencester, especially on market days. There are proper car parks a short walk from the centre with not a multi storey to be seen, lots of shops including a greengrocer (Anyone remember them?} and of course the church and the abbey grounds are a real attractions for visitors.

Not been there - it's a bit far south for me.  I'm north of Tewkesbury.

Ashford Kent used to be busy, big Saturday market cheap parking and free road parking. So the council decided to change the whole lot round. I think that they spent something like 18 million and rearranged everything,. There was a clear ring road that went one way.  Nahh. They made it all two way with no white lines. They had the cars and the people all in together.  They built an extra new multi story on an open car park and then ramp up the rate to about £3.80 an hour. All the free road parking was made meter parking.  The result is that a lot of people don't go there because of the parking cost and trying to navigate the dogem track of the town.  the loads of new shops have either moved on closed down or never opened SO the place is a ghost town.  Either people shop online or out of town.  The main roads were all filled in and made pedestrian but when you look at the pedestrians they don't look like the sort of people who would go into any shops with the intention of paying for any goods that they walked out with. Because the whole lot is no car access zone no one goes there with a car to collect anything that they might buy IF there was anything to buy.

When I lived in Stafford for 3 years, I did use to use the multi story by Asda quite a few times.
Parking there on a Saturday night, having a few beers then picking the car up the next day only cost a couple of quid!

Where are they building the new one?

I agree that all stairwells smell of tinkle too 🤣
