TIGHTCHOKE Posted Thursday at 13:07 Report Share Posted Thursday at 13:07 (edited) Thank TTK and Rachel from Accounts for their ineptitude. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvged0x5ykxo Sainsbury's has announced it will cut 3,000 jobs as it shuts down its remaining cafés and closes its patisserie and pizza counters. The supermarket says the move will "simplify the business", adding that most Sainsbury's shoppers "do not use the cafés regularly". Sainsbury's also plans to make a 20% reduction in senior management roles, saying the business faces a "particularly challenging cost environment". Although Sainsbury's was already in the midst of a plan to save £1bn over the next few years, the BBC understands the rise in employer's National Insurance contributions set out in the Budget has also been a factor in this latest restructuring plan. In response to Sainsbury's announcement, Downing Street said: "As we said at the Budget, difficult decisions were needed to restore economic stability, and put the public finances back on to a stable footing." Gordon R Posted Thursday at 13:32 Report Share Posted Thursday at 13:32 However bad the news, some idiot spokesperson for the Government tries to put a positive spin on it. The thrust of the argument always seems to be that Joe Public and big business can't see the bigger picture. Attempted brain washing drivel. Not sure how businesses firing staff is economic stability.

I think there will be MUCH more when the truth of the new regulations on employment (Rayner's brainchild) come in because it will be much harder (and more expensive) to do in the future

Rather than take measures to keep them afloat. The removal of the cafe's in Sainsburys is ongoing, they use the space to open an Argos as that is within their package. The removal of masses of unnecessary middle management posts would be a good precept for the government and the Civil Service.

JohnfromUK Posted Thursday at 13:59 Report Share Posted Thursday at 13:59 Just now, TIGHTCHOKE said: The removal of masses of unnecessary middle management posts would be a good precept for the government and the Civil Service. Wishful thinking. They might get as far as setting up a committee or quango to 'look into all options'. It will sit for several years, visiting many sites, staying in 5 star hotels and doing additional visits to see how it is done in the south of France, Barbados, New York etc. Following a period of study they will produce a report that says; Further study is needed There needs to be an 'ongoing' permanent department to address the issue This will need a dedicated building (confidentiality) and a full staff. After this - the Gov't will go away and look into the report - and the members of the committee/Quango will get seats in the House of Lords. Everyone will be happy.
